yhm has sick pricing...i can only think of 3 reasons why:

1. they are trying to get rid of everything because they are coming out with all new stuff that is gonna be 10x better than what they have out now.

2. they products dont last and arent finished well.

3. they really are that good and their prices are just even better.

im hoping its #3.

I think they just don't mark up as high as everyone else. Their stuff is very good.

Their products are machined goods, the more labor you take out them and lower your overhead, the lower the cost.

In other words, big new building and older single station machining equipment that means more secondary operations is a higher cost than a small older building with full automated machines like a CNC with no secondary operations.

You really can't apply quality to cost on machined parts but measure the quality based on the finished product. That's form, fit, and function.

YHM stuff are very good. It's just that I don't prefer their rail styles.

If you really compare their stuff with some of the othe brands out there you can see that they don't do as many extra machining operations on someof their stuff. So their stuff tends to be a bit heavier, or simpler in design. Also their finish process isn't quite as polished or "special".

They do basic parts very well. they don't do a lot of "elegant" design work.

I've used several of their items for over 6 years now with no complaints about any of them other than some extra weight.

They've got some good sales going on now. As for "coming out with 10x better" I doubt it, so you shouldn't have any buyer's remorse.

Maybe 1.1X better, but not 10x.

because of YHM doing the minimal processes needed to get a product to work, not racing on a regular basis to upgrade or bring out newer products, and that they are well established and so not having to recoup investment is the reasons for their low prices

I'd like to ask a followup question, are the YHM Lightweight Forearms, actually lightweight? I'm planning on building a lightweight Ar for the wife and was considering the YHM lightweight forearm.

Anyone have experience with this item?
thanks
keith

They are fairly light weight, but not as light as a Daniel Defense Omega or Lite.

troy markets their handguards as the lighest available on the market:

i think its the 5th claim down on the list.

your best bet is to go on all the different sites and look at the weight WITH the amount of rails you want on there. then take into account the weight of what your actually going to hang on there. sometimes those .## ounces mean something. sometimes they dont.

If the Troy is lighter than the Omega it's because the Omega has four full rails. The Troy only has two 2" rails and one 4" rail. The Omega weighs less than the standard plastic handguards.
