What is the best rifling rate for a 308 round. I just basically want to use my gun for target shooting, and maybe sometime in the future, go elk hunting out west or something. Long range is my main concern. The platform i am looking at is a M1A with a stainless 1:11 twist

1:11 is the happy medium. 1:10 is for heavier bullets and 1:12 is for NATO and a bit heavier bullets. I had a Krieger 1:11 that would shoot NATO and match ammo sub MOA all day long. I currently have a Krieger DMR 1:12 that shoots MOA to sub MOA but will be changing to a Krieger medium 18.5 inch barrel with 1:10.

I went the happy medium route on my bolt .308. It's a 24" stainless barrel with a 1:11.25" twist. Only thing I run down it is SMK 175 gr. BTHP's.
