The Redding seems more stable but the Lyman has an angled exit tube which seems would let the powder dispense to the scale easier. With the Redding do you have to shake it or do the individual grains fall to the scale on their own?

They fall on their own once you rotate the knob. I have the Redding No. 5 and think it's the best one made!

Let me put it this way, I retired my Lyman as soon as I got the Redding. The extra weight of the marble base Redding makes it much more stable and less prone to shift as you turn the knob while using on a flat surface.

I bought it on recommendation from others and was one of the better recommendations I've had over the years.

i uesd the hornady for years until i got the lyman1200-3 electric never gave me a problem
