I just finished a long discussion with another employee regarding the use of FATS training here at our dept.
My opinion is that it is on the low end of novice in any kids video game world. What is the latest and greatest, what is your dept using?

We get some time on Range 3000 fairly regularly. At least that is what the state calls it, not sure what it's marketed under.

I did a search for range 3000, it seems a lot of agencies are using it. I was hoping to see an online demo of it but nothing so far. It would be interesting to compare to see just how outdated FATS is.

We just took delivery of something called a CSI (Crisis International Simulator). It sounds like it is more of a classroom based multimedia simulation for supervisors and command. We still have a FATS trailer and have updated the video scenarios several times over the past 10+ years.

the FATS was used when i went through FLETC and now in the field offices something else is used... the new system has a huge amount of leeway for instructor to change scenarios. i tried it out a few months back and it certainly is effective.

It's really good for decision making, it gives the instructor several different ways to go with each scenario. The first time you're in the alley, the guy might be compliant. Next time, he might pull a Kabar and charge. I think that some of the systems will shoot paintballs back at you, but I might be mistaken.

We use FATS, and while it is outdated and we can't get new scenarios, it is okay. The qualification range loadings are good for practice on just marksmanship. Hell we use it in the USAF for quals.

There is a new system out that shoots ping pong balls at you and another one that uses a belt with a box on it that shocks you when you would have been hit.
