Ive been wanting to get an AK but don't want to take a chance of getting a bad one by ordering one online. There aren't any locally that are worth buying. This will be a shooter not a collector. Are there any available online for a good price where I wont have to worry about getting a dud?

Century Yugo's have milled receivers, and tend to shoot a little tighter than your typical WASR. CHECK THE SIGHT TOWER ALIGNMENT!!! This is the first sign of a bad day for the Century monkeys; if it's crooked, move on to the next one!

Underfolders & fixed stock models can both be had for around $450 these days - a little more than a WASR, but you'll come CLOSER to hitting what'cha aim at! thumb.gif

first off figure which caliber you want.7.62 or 5.45.I tend to agree with above. If you buy a new weapon, you also get a warranty with it so if anything goes wrong or you don't like, like canted sights or feeding problems, the two main complaints ya send it back.I am really not a fan of century craftsmanship so I build my own.Milled receivers are nice. Both calibers are great and ammo seems to be going down in price so either one is going to be good to have.Get your weapon and stack your ammo deep.Pick a reputable dealer and if you can get the weapon in your hand look it over carefully,if not get one from a trusted dealer.

I always suggest a VZ58 over a AK47, as it is 11 better. smile.gif

CAI Yugos do not have a milled receiver, rather the 'bulged trunion' variety like the RPK. Their design makes them a bit more rigid and accurate than standard com-bloc stamped AKs.

I would not go with a folding stock for a first AK, cheek welds are difficult and uncomfortable on folders and it may switch you off to the whole platform.

Front Sight cant is an aesthetic issue, and can be corrected by pushing the pins out and re aligning the FSB if it is not too bad. This is caused by a rotation of the barrel when its being pressed into the front trunnion.

WASR's are not bad rifles, just ugly. At a AK school put on by Larry Vickers in 2008, the top shooter was a Lt. with the 10th Mountain Div. using a WASR he bought 3 days before the class. It had minor cant to the sights.

The best deal going, however is the K-Var rifles. Top of the line AK's for a few bills more than a beater WASR.

JM2CW, YMMV.

Nice choice! I paid that for a Romy WASR after throwing on the NATO buttstock and furniture.

You're getting a beauty!
