I have been thinking about trying some sort of competitive shooting. Don't have alot of money and with gas approaching $4.00 per gallon I cant travel too far. My Frankenstien Delta Elite would need some work before it would be ready for competition. Is there a stock class that I could use my Sig 229 in .40 cal?

You can shoot in IDPA (International Defensive Pistol Assn (www.IDPA.com) All you need is a pistol, which you apparently have, at least 3 magazines, ammo, mag pouch(s) to carry 2 mags in, a strong side holster and a concealment garment (vest, coat, shirt with the tail out--be creative). Read the rules at the website, then attend a match and observe--you may find it is just what you are looking for.

Your 229 would be perfect for USPSA production. You can load the ammo way down to around 125 power factor. 40 minor is softer shooting with 180 grain bullets that most factory 9mm.

I used to use a Sig 229 but in 357 sig for Production.

I was a bit nervous when I first shot IPSC, but man is it fun. Your Sig would be fine for production class, just have 4 or more magazines, a holster that covers the trigger guard, maybe 150 rounds or so, thats about all you need. And have fun, its addicting.
I shot my Ruger GP100 or P89DC at first, then bought a P16 Para, but as of today I can take the new 610 and use moon clips. Hurray! Been looking for a reasonably priced 610 for about 3 years, finally got one today, 6 1/2" newest version with less than a box through it, though a 5" is my preference.

When I started back in the late 70's I shot a 6" Python using a holster with a strap and the speed loaders were in my hip pocket. That's all I had. Now I have a Colt Delta Gold Cup and a Delta Elite that I shoot. I'm not much better but, I do have fun. IPSC is a lot like the old days of sprint car racing. Run what ya brung. Club matches are a great way to start. They'll find a place for you and you can get squaded with some really nice people. They will help you get along and show you the ropes. The best advise I can give you starting out is to be safe above all else and go slow. Walk the stages while shooting. The speed comes later. The score doesn't matter. Ask a lot of questions. Once upon a time we were all where you are now. Who knows, you may get your wife interested and she'll start shooting, too. Trust me, there are some girls that can make most of us look really bad but, who cares. Now go have fun ! ! !
