As its been many many years since I've looked into anything camping/surival, I know technology has improved greatly over the last few years.

So is there anything new out there that lasts forever, is indestructable and will always make fire?

Or is a flint still the best thing?

I also plan on getting some lighters & waterproof matches, but want some type of device that will always work forever.

One thing on the blast match is you have to have a hard surface to press it against. unless you want all of those sparks on your finger.

They're not really junk, they just are a bit different to use so a little tricky on how to and where to and they also have a tendency to break, but even broken they're still one hell of piece of flint and steel.

Our first Blastmatch was given to my son, one of the NRA kits. The damn thing puts out so much spark, I almost caught my kitchen on fire trying it out. laugh.gif For what they do, they are amazing.

Tj

Hmm. "a tendency to break" is not something I would like to explore. No matter how good/cool.

I am looking for the most durable products that will last (hopefully) a lifetime.

So will I be pretty happy with the Strikeforce quality?

Should I also pick up a couple magnesium sticks still also?

Are there different kinds/qualities of magnesium sticks? Or are they all the same?

Like I posted, the magnesium bar is my number 1 mechanical. They're just cheap, easy to use, and take up very little space. Some of the bars are a little harder to shave than others but I can't recommend by a brand. Its been kind of luck of the draw.

The Strike Force is basically the old Swedish Firesteel concept, which is a simple flint bar and carbon steel striker. The only difference is it comes in a neat little box.

Here's a link to some inexpensive Swedish Firesteels. These use hacksaw blades as strikers but they work great. I bought three of these just to throw into GHBs and try them out.

3 Sweadish Firesteels for $15

As you can see, its the same thing really.

Yes, call me a whore, but I like the neat little package/box the Striekforce comes in.

Is there anything wrong/junk about Swedish Firesteels?
