I'd like to hear the pros and cons of two stage triggers. I have had people tell me they are no good on a defence rifle.
Others say you can't shoot an AR without having one. Where is the truth?

I hear you on that. I have a standard trigger on mine and was thinking of upgrading and am not sure if I want to go with a two-stage or single-stage myself. I am not familiar with the feel of a two-stage.

I have Rock River 2 stage National Match triggers in all my rifles/carbines and never ever once had a problem with them. I have thousands of rounds out of the carbine, and 4000 from my NRA National Match AR15A2 Service Rifle with never a bobble. I have other rifles/carbines that have quite a few rounds out of them and also never a bobble.
I like the fairly light 4.5 lb trigger pull that is the same each and ever time. It lets you concentrate on the shot and not worry about a rough, heavy trigger that feels different from trigger pull to the other as some factory single stage triggers have.
Get a Rock River Arms 2 stage trigger and you will love it and they works.

I too have the Rock River 2-Stage National Match Trigger on one of my guns. I have it on my DMR/long range build, but it's so nice I'm highly considering getting another set for my 14.5'' close quarters build (too lazy to do the paperwork for a 10.5'' barrel).

RRA 2-stage here as well. Replaced the light Timney on my POF. Timney is a BEAUTIFUL trigger... for a HUNTING rifle. It was TOO light and crisp FOR a home defense carbine, so based on the recommendations of a LOT of people on M4carbine.net that I trust - and a couple of shooting partners - I went the RRA route as well. The takeup is no big deal, because the break is clean, crisp, and definite.

There might be better triggers than the RRA, depending on who you talk to. But for the price they simply cannot be beat. I guess if I was a national match shooter then getting a small fraction better performance at 3 times the price it would be worth it. But very few of us are better shots than their rifles are. Going with the RRA 2 stage is the way to go for the rest of us.

Or even just getting a trigger job done or simply replacing the springs.

Ask TigerStripe who is the trigger job guy. Something like $40.

Tubbs trigger springs are only like 20 bucks and can be put in by anyone. Smooths it out a bit and drops a pound off the trigger pull. On my carbine it was all I felt needed to be done.



A mod should move this out of the ammo area.

I would look into the Bill Springfield duty weight trigger job for a defense/duty carbine. It's a clean 4 to 4.5 pound trigger for $35 with your parts and that includes return shipping. If you're going to use a two stage defense/duty trigger, go with the Geissele SSA.

Single-stage is best for tactical or sniping use. Benchrest/competitions shooters often prefer a two-stage. I prefer single-stage, but my precision AR has a RRA two-stage - I couldn't argue with the price and quality. I can be very happy with a two-stage for that price. The difference does not really noticeably affect my shooting, anyway. I have used several expensive match triggers that were not as nice as the RRA triggers, others that were as nice or maybe a bit nicer.

I have a G3 trigger pack that I have been meaning to send off to Bill Springfield. I should have him do an AR trigger while I am at it.

The link to Bill Springfield's website is Triggerwork.net. If you specify a duty trigger he'll tune it close to 4.5lb for a good defensive trigger. You don't want adrenalyn "helping" you pull the trigger at the wrong time.
