Man these guns are sweet.
I have been practicing with a borrowed Garand for a couple of weeks now and I mean to tell you these rifles are fantastic to say the least. Up until this point I have never held one in my hands before.
These rifles balance very well, look great and shoot like a dream. How could you go wrong with a semi-automatic 30-06???
This will be my next gun purchase for sure. thumb.gif
Now I know what I have been missing.

It's so hard to explain to someone what a fantastic gun it really is. Everyone thinks antique or old fashioned. But when you hold that warm wood and feel the power and the smoothness, well, how can you not fall in love. And the price just makes it sweeter.

WOW indeed...
i just shot one this weekend for the first time and was truely impressed. the smoothness of the trigger pull and bolt cycle was truely a fine work of machinery. i was shooting 100 yrd open sights and was plugging holes in 6-7 inch groups i need one also.
i must say after spending so much time with the .223 i wasnt ready for the beating i received from that metal butt plate.

Just think how bad it is on the receiving end. I don't know if the military still teaches butt strokes for hand to hand but if you run out of ammo an M-1 makes a much better club than an m-16 and will probably continue to function as a firearm afterward.

I could not have said that any better G.
When you pull that rifle into your shoulder it just feels right. This truely was love at first sight for me. I want one so bad I can almost taste it.
I am going to Camp Perry and will be participating in the John C Garand national match shoot and this excites the crap out of me! I am trying to do some creative financing to see if I am able to afford one. I may have to sell one of my bolt guns to aquire one but I think it will be worth it. thumb.gif

I think that the recoil is pretty tolerable from a standing position or sitting but when you are prone it kind of hits you at a different angle. That is going to take some getting used to. They don't kick all that hard at all for an 06, but a rubber pad would certainly make it less intense. thumb.gif

You buy them from The CMP
They are authorized by Congress to sell US guns to the public, and they will bring them to your door.

Gee. What have I be saying. Grrrrrr.
Congratulation Kenny. I was lucky that I got to shoot my first M1, BAR, M1 Thompson, Mp40, M1919 Browning and 10 round through a MG34. 1974
After the M1 it put me on a quest to poccess one. In 1978 at the Grand Rapids Gun show I made a $200 offer to a guy with $225 price tag on a badly beaten M1.
I walked out with that 9.75 lbs beast and 5 Garand clips. bigsmile.gif
I still haul it and see it as a wonderful weapon.

The only dumb question there is is the one you don't ask. That is the one that will kill you.

Hope for peace plan for war. That way you will get no big surprises.

I grabbed him by the collar and jerked him to his feet.
There was something cold and shiny a-laying by my head.
So I started to believe the things he said.

And if you stop by at one of their 2 locations (Ohio or Alabama), you can also walk into their store and walk out with one too. thumb.gif

First of all learn to use the follower rod correctly while loading. The 10# thumb sucks.
That butt plate is for what Lon said. Most of it is actually phyc. You think gee I gotta a steel butt plate here its going to hurt.
I had a bud a shot HiPo with he used to shoot his against the tip of his nose. My 14 year old daughter has been aquainted with daddy's M-1 since she was 9. She would rather shoot the M1 than my 270 or my 7mm Mauser sporter.

What do the different grades mean?

What is the diff between 'rack' and 'field' grades?

What is the diff between 'WRA' and 'SA'?

Thanks.

Another question: Why are the Winchesters more expensive, than the Springfield Armorys?

Winchesters better quality?

Cachet. The Name. Rarity. Less of them. Winchester was WWII. Ask Rasputin. I wish I had one.

I'm a pretty big guy and never have problems with recoil and I have shot up to .50 cals and .458 mags. But really if you load it into your shoulder pocket correctly it should not be bad recoil. At times I have put through more than 200 rds a day with no soreness. Have fun!
