hi all, i'm new to the world of ar's. recently purchased a rock river with a tactical carry handle but am having some problems mounting a scope with regular see through rings so i can still use the sights at close range. i've bought 2 sets of see through rings already but had no luck because of the hight of the iron sights. i'm sure someone else has had this problem already and i'd like to make the 3rd time the charm with rings. thanks

Avoid the see thru rings, they are unnecessary and inconvenient.

Think about it like this.

How will you get a good cheek weld with the scope sitting completely over the sights?

i guess my next question would then be is there any way possible to use a scope and sights at the same time. seems like a dumb question but i kind of find it hard to believe that there is no way to do this.

Get a set of irons that fit on top of the scope. Close range is covered and long range accuracy is not impeded.

they make quick release scope mounts that will drop your scope to the side so you can use flip up iron sights at that point, but to use both simultaneously and effectively.....not that I know of.see here

as for getting good cheek on the gun i'm just going to deal with it. i've run other set ups where i couldnt rest on the butt of the gun and still used scopes. its not the most relaxed position but i've been able to be accurate with it before.

That would probably work. i am aiming at hunting coyotes in a combination of woods and field so there's no telling where one might run in. it would be no problem with just flipping the scope out the way to use the close ups. any idea who makes them?

If that is the case look for a scope with 2-7x or 2.5-10x dial down in the woods and up in the fields. Scope will beat irons in every situation even running if you practice some.

if you look at several 3-gun AR's, some of them will have actual iron sights mounted at a 45* angle just like the optic in post #11.

you really could solve the issue pretty easily with an eotech and FTS mag.
