Very nice, if I didn't already have 2 308's, would think about it...

Try Georgia Arms, they are way behind on 223 but might have some canned heat in 308..... they just shipped my 223 yesterday after a 6 week wait......

i will give them a look. I just sold my AE 5.56 ammo on gun broker. there is plenty of it at Cabelas. Sniper central recommends the HSM ammo which i guess Cabelas also carries for the 308

On my Midwayusa flyer, there are some Winchester 7.62x51mm overrun NATO military production ammo for sale and they seem to have them in stock, case of 200 for $124.99, I bought a case of it months ago, so far haven't shot any of it...

The 308 is proprietary so i cant run the nato stuff in the DPMS...well you can but DPMS does not recommend it. but if the barrel is 7.62 then i could do either

you can use the 7.62x51 in 308 actions, you are thinking about 223 and 5.56.....308 is actually higher pressure than the NATO stuff.... I bought mine to use in my T/C rifle and Savage Striker pistol in 308

The taper behind the case neck is different angle, for the 7.62 and 308 so this applies PER DPMS anyway

While you can physically fire either 308 or 7.62 NATO from a 308, you will see reduced accuracy from increased wear in the throat of the rifling and a higher chance of erratic cycling, including a higher chance of failures to extract. It is for this reason we recommend using only commercial 308 in a 308 barrel. Will it work,...yes. Is it ideal, not necessarily

----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

In DPMS rifles, 7.62x51 or .308 is allowed in 7.62x51 chambers. Do not use 7.62x51 in a .308 chamber. It will function, at times flawlessly, however over time issues may arise. That is the long and short of it. Use the ammo your rifle was designed for, effectively whatever is stamped on your barrel is what you should use except in the case of 5.56x45mm (.223 can be used) and 7.62x51mm (.308 can be used).
