Gents, I am coming up on that magical time where I have had my pistol permit for a year and am goign to write a letter to the judge requesting my restrictions removed so I can carry concealed.

I currently have a Sig P229 Equinox.

I currently have the .40 S&W barrel for it.

I absolutely love the gun but have to confess I am itching to get my hands on the Sig P220 Compact - virtually the Sig P245

Gratuitous sig Pr0n:

In any case, I am not made of money and all that nonesence, so if I want the P220 I need to either take time and save for it, or trade in a few things(and take time and save for the other 3/4s of it animlol.gif )

So should I get the P220? only 6 rounds of .45 vs 10(in NY dry.gif ) of .40 S&W or .357 Sig in the P229...

which caliber would you choose?

But then I got my Addax Gas piston AR. Sure I still have to keep a few small replacement parts, but I'll let you kick me in the balls for every malfunction I have with my Addax GPU, thats how reliable it is!

So far we are at, hold on, let me check..... ZERO!

I did.

If its for personal defense, a round that flattens out like a .45 is safer.

A 9mm can shoot through a wall and possibly injuring someone on the other side that you may have not known to be there. A .45 has a lesser chance of doing that.

I am quoting this from my CCW corse. I have a .40 S&W but thats because I had no pistol to even plink with. If I had that I would have gone with a .45 for my carry gun. He wants a carry gun so I would go with .45

Again, it was my opinion based from what I was taught in my CCW training. Seemed to make perfect sense to me.

I voted for the .40. I do not want to hear you bitch about the cost of ammo to practice with. You are going to have to practice with the ammo you are going to use. The .40 is the cheapest of the group.

I have about 1K of .45 and 1K of .40 for practise ammo, only about a $20 difference if I recall correctly.

At the local store, 50 rounds of each costs only $1 more for .45

.45

I used to have a .357 Sig barrel, why do you prefer it over the .40? I thought the recoil was about the same so I guess it really comes down to how it preforms as a defensive round.

Ok, I love the .45, but I'm going to suggest the .357Sig. It's an awesome round for an autoloader, and if you can deal with the cost of the ammo, GET IT. You can buy a .40 barrel, and practice with that ammo, and just use the .357Sig for self-defense.

.45 ACP because in JHP it starts out .45 and just gets bigger gun2.gif

I'll agree. I like carrying the G19 I have now but as some one stated before.....

115gr + 115gr = 230gr. This mathematically proves that .45 is TWICE as good as 9mm!

Plus I just like the 45acp round. I also had a P220 a while back.
Good solid hand gun.
Never had any problems with it.

I voted .40

Ammo Cost and Magazine capacity.

If I want to carry 6 rounds of ammunition I'll find a revolver.

I keep hearing people say this. I won't turn this thread into the .40 vs .357 argument as its been done to death, I think I will go google it instead animlol.gif

That is a good point. With practice, you can reload a revolver with a speed loader just about as fast as a semi.

Who was your CCW instructor? He's either a liar, ignorant, or a mixture of both.

In FMJ ammunition, either round will penetrate wall board like it's not there.

In JHP ammunition, either round will penetrate wall board like it's not there, because they both typically clog and become an equivalent to FMJ.

Edited to add: I remember seeing that in testing, the difference between 9mm and .45ACP in wallboard testing was negligible (ie. one piece of wallboard, through at least six or seven). I'll look in my bookmarks to see if I have the site saved when I have time after shooting tonight).

Christ I hate hearing this kind of crap is still being taught in CCW classes.
