AR15 Armory.com _ 10mm Factory Ammo & Performance Discussion _ Doubletap 230gr Equalizer with two projectiles

I ordered a 50rnd box of these from Midway USA yesterday. Interesting concept, a 135gr JHP loaded over a 90gr .40 cal lead ball at about 1050fps & 525ftlb of energy. Supposedly the lead ball hits the target about 1-2" higher than the JHP does. I figure this might be a really devatating self defense round, but also question that using this type of ammo in a self defense shooting might be termed a little excessive by the investigators or prosecution. I will probably shoot a mag full from the 1076 to see how accurate they shoot and also shoot some wet newspaper or phone books to check performance, but just keep the rest in the SHTF ammo stash. If SHTF I would not care what anyone thinks about it, but currently I have 165gr Golddot Doubletap rounds for EDC.

I have some too. but I mostly use the 165gr like you. I wouldnt worry about legal trouble. a bullet is a bullet, as long as you dont hit any bystanders. theres a lot of energy loss with the two projectiles as well.

Been a while since I used the Equalizer but I do believe the 1 - 2" is accurate. Personally I prefer their 135 gr Nosler JHP at 1600 fps...nice fireball too!

The Equalizer concept sounds very intersting. Unfortuanelly I haven'found an importer for the stuff yet, but I won't give up. The Equalizer would be an very good short range sd load and that is what am looking for. Another intersting option would be the double tapp 135 grain jhp. Corbon also offers an 135 grain jhp, but the corbon stuff is also very hard to get here in austria.. sad.gif

armadillo-be sure and post a target pic showing where those two projectiles hit at say 5, 7, 10 and 25 yards.
Just one shot per range to get an idea of projectile spread.thumb.gif
Many of our members have been curious, me included, as to how the accuracy is.
