Since I own both a Glock 20 and a Kimber Eclipse II in 10mm, I voted for both.

If I had to choose 1 though, definitely the kimber. Uses my .45ACP mags with no issues whatsoever, and is just sexy.

Kudos to Oak1971 for starting a thread sure to have lots of replies!

I voted Witness, cause that is what I have. They are the best for me.

However, the question is reality is all, or perhaps none. Personal consideration, intended purpose, etc all play into that question.

If your intended purpose is to be the most accurate 200 yard pistol possible, with no other consideration, then you probably want to consider a Contender with a 10" 10mm barrel (if such a beast can be had).

If you want a classic gun with lots of soul, the 1911 is the clear winner.

Uber reliable high round count modern gun, Glock is your beast.

I wanted high round count, and the option of condition 0,1,2,3, carry. That spelled Witness. I avoided the 'rounded' or 'scalloped' slide models as they were having slide cracking issues. Supposedly that is resolved, but I am still wary.

If I were able to add any 10mm to my arsenal at this time, cost being only of limited concern, then it would be a STI VIP in 40 with a 10mm barrel.

I would not mind a Witness either. I just don't know much about them, aside from whats on their web site.

I voted for the Glock as I have a stock G20 and a G20T. However, if the Bren Ten ever becomes a reality again I think it would win one of these polls hands down.

I like the 1911 platform, as always, because it has soul. The Glock is just a souless tool, and the Witness just doesn't have the sex appeal.

I was thinking about getting a 10mm barrel for my Witness Stock before I bought the Witness Hunter. You're saying that this has no "sex appeal":

I voted for the 1911. I have a Dan Wesson P-7, and a Glock G-20 SF. I like the Pm-7 best.

Depends on what your intent is.

Carry? Hunting? Target? Plinking/Blasting?

For edc I'd vote for the G29.

For woods carry, the S&W 1006.

Just my thoughts.

For utility (and the fact thatit is in current production): G20. For sheer accuracy and hunting purposes: DW/RZ10. For the best of both worlds: Fusion Arms.

I voted for the G29 because I do not own a 20 and probably never will, loved the 1006 & 1086 and the Witness 10 I had, but the slapping slides just killed my arthritic hands where the 610 and G29 does not so the SEXY Wonder Finish Witness and and oh so sexxxxxy 1006/1086 had to go.

If I were walking in the woods with squirrel rifle tomorrow, my G-29 would be on my hip or maybe the 610 5" if I was ready to tote the extra weight. As for carrying the 1006 in the woods, never happen for me. The 1006 is way to much weight to hike a few miles up and down Ozark Hills with, give me a G29 when hiking in the woods.

Agreed!
This is a great thread.
Below is my former Witness full size when I was attempting some custom grips. I Flitzed the frame as the finish had marred off. I wonder about the finish on these anyway. wink.gif
Sort of a pimp gun. smile.gif

I will add my two cents worth. The best two ergonomic platforms for the 10mm are the Glock 20, and Smith & Wesson 610 revolver (3 7/8" bbl.). You can just about cover all the bases with these two platforms. There really is no "best platform"; however a double-action pistol like the "Bren Ten" would also fill-the-bill very well!

Another 2 cents. Suggest you get the one that best fits your primary use, is most natural in your hand, and if money is a consideration, fits your budget. In that order of priority.
As for me, I know people that love their Glock but I just don't care for the "feel" of the Glock grip and hate the trigger. Also I like weapons that fire very tight groups, so by the time I got the necessary work done on the Glock to make me happy I would have well over a grand in the gun.
I grew up on 1911s, the standard grip feels great and they just natually point right for me. And there are many quality models that can get as accurate as you like. But they also come with a price tag well over a grand, and as a family man, money is a major consideration for me.
As for the Witness, I plan to order a Witness Elite "Match" for myself for Christmas. Here's why. I love the way it feels in my hand and it points naturally for me like the 1911. Also can carry cocked-n-locked like the 1911. I get a "Match" accuracy weapon with several featues standard that would cost hundreds of dollars more in other weapons. It is designed so it is not just a "range" weapon but is a pratical carry weapon that you can be confident that it will preform when it counts. Owners do say it is best to upgrade the recoil spring from 16# to 20-22# if one is going to be firing hot loads regularly, (isn't that the whole point of owning a 10) but that is an $8 cost for a Wolf spring and takes about 2 minutes to do - if I am slow. All that for a price of $485-$535 online. And as a bonus I can (and will) buy a upper half conversion kit in 22LR with mag or under $200. I'm getting the 22LR so my kids can shoot and I can just go plinking all day while spending pennies for ammo. So for me, I think the Witness Match meets my needs, makes me happy, gives me by far the greatest value for my money, I get the bonus of the 22LR conversion, and I still have about $400-$500 in my pockets that would not be there if I bot most other weapons. 'Nuff said.
Good Luck and Good Shooting
