well, I contacted DNR (Enforcement Division). They thanked me for calling in, and told me that they had caught a poacher at those exact map coordinates very recently, baiting with peanut butter. I volunteered to return the stand and was told not to. (apparantly, it's illegal to steal a poacher's stand BC.gif )

I also learned that the hogs have moved to higher ground. The gentleman I spoke to gave me very precise directions to where they are right now...Just need to pick up a better topo map. Can't wait 'till the weekend!

(HS, I appreciated your comments, even if we don't see eye-to-eye. I'm just not the kind of person who sees wrongs and doesn't attempt to make right. In my perspective, a criminal deserves neither protection nor consideration...they don't care about me or my stuff, why should I care about theirs? Probably a good thing I'm not a cop....Anyhoo, I never thought it might be a photographer....good point, and I'll try to remember that if the situation comes up again...I'll still remove the stand, but I'll tack a note to the tree telling the owner to pick it up at the nearest DNR office. They can explain why it was set up in a protected area when they pick it up.)

Going hunting for wild pig tomorrow AM. Never been before, always wanted to...finally got a chance to go with someone who knows how and where.
Heavy brush and swamp...not gonna be a whole lot of 300 yd shots, and since my 7mm mag isn't exactly a CQB rifle set up for up-close, fast-moving dangerous game....I'm going with this! I've ditched the bipod and added an Aimpoint.

if I get one, pics will follow!

Colt45guy, That is an awesome rifle. Is it DSA?
I wanna know more.

That would be very kool. If its anything like a Millers shoot, the sky is the limit.

I think doin it C&R style would be interesting as well. I think I would go with my trusty K31 cool.gif

Man I love that gun more than my AR.

Jim,

yup. that's my DSA stainless 16". It's stock other than the Aimpoint, lighter HTS springs and I removed the bipod....custom matte finish. (I blasted it with ultra fine aluminum oxide to get rid of the ghetto-bling shine)

It's reasonably accurate--baseball sized groups at 100 with SA surplus, 2" with quality factory ammo. It's my gun of choice because of it's utter reliablity regardless of conditions. I love my DPMS 308 also, but it's just too damn heavy to hunt with.
