well, I contacted DNR (Enforcement Division). They thanked me for calling in, and told me that they had caught a poacher at those exact map coordinates very recently, baiting with peanut butter. I volunteered to return the stand and was told not to. (apparantly, it's illegal to steal a poacher's stand
)
I also learned that the hogs have moved to higher ground. The gentleman I spoke to gave me very precise directions to where they are right now...Just need to pick up a better topo map. Can't wait 'till the weekend!
(HS, I appreciated your comments, even if we don't see eye-to-eye. I'm just not the kind of person who sees wrongs and doesn't attempt to make right. In my perspective, a criminal deserves neither protection nor consideration...they don't care about me or my stuff, why should I care about theirs? Probably a good thing I'm not a cop....Anyhoo, I never thought it might be a photographer....good point, and I'll try to remember that if the situation comes up again...I'll still remove the stand, but I'll tack a note to the tree telling the owner to pick it up at the nearest DNR office. They can explain why it was set up in a protected area when they pick it up.)
