I kind of think they are a pretty fish. No they aren't bright and shiny but they are neat looking and have cool colors and put up one heck of a fight. I love catfishing.

Shovel head I caught Friday night.

Caught it in a pay lake near Hillsboro, Ohio. I have never had any luck catching big cats in rivers. I would really like to though.

I have never caught a flat head in a pond or lake. They are all over the rivers here though.

Go on down to the Ohio. There's cats in there that will blow your mind. Most the rivers Cinnci to Waverly are shallow and fast moving so the big ones always end up in the Ohio unless there's a dam to stop them. They're quite lazy the bigger they get and will stay at things like eddies or dams forever as long as the food keeps hitting and dropping down to them. You find an eddie in a big river, you can bet the odds are there's a big cat down there just laying their gobbling all the goodies that get sucked down to him.

In that part of Ohio, you actually have better luck in the rivers and streams noodling.

BTW, I have a lot of family in Pike County.

I bet if you know Hillsbouogh, you know about Kockemstiff. laugh.gif

Oh yeah, my grandfather owned a farm in Greenfield, or just outside it when I was a kid.

Pay lakes are like a Ohio phenomena. They stock the lakes then use corn meal to feed the fish. People pay to get to fish there which pays for it all. Use to be quite the little gambling operation too. They'd tag fish and if you caught that one, you'd win a lot of money.

Yeah, they still have a lot of tagged fish in most of the lakes. We have jackpots for slots sizes to depending on the lake. Most have payout for biggest fish of the week also.

While I was there a guy caught a 33 pound shovel head. If he had paid the two dollars for that slot he would have went home with $700.
