well, i've never owned a "tactical" flashlight before. mostly because of the price tag. and the only experience i have with a weapon light is the beamshot laser/light combo on my glock. its very bright, brighter then my 6d cell maglight. but its also an LED.

anyway i stopped by Sportsmans Warehouse today to see what was the deal with this place. they had Surefire g2's for about 35 bucks. thats roughly as cheap as i see them online. but i could have it that day instead of waiting on shipping. well they also had a sale package that included a Pelican pm6 in black, 2 cr123 batteries, and a black tanto CRKT m16-10kz knife. all for 34$.

the light sells online for anywhere from 25-35ish. and the knife is around 20-25. so basicaally i got either the light or knife, for damn near free, depending on how you look at it.

so i said what the hell, and got that over the preferred surefire. it took a bit of work to get the batteries and light into the housing, but that was mostly my fault. i removed the belt clip as i have no use for it. its a pressure switch on the back, momentary and click on. its small and polymer, basically a pelican version of the G2.

at first glance in broad colorado daylight in my car, i could clearly see the light hitting the interior. once i came home, its substantially brighter then my 6d-cell mag light. the pelican is advertised at 75 lumans. i dont know what the light on my beam shot is, but its an LED, and the pelican is a xenon. the pelican is, even in daylight, brighter then the beamshot. and the beamshot easily lights up a living room at night.

im sure, based on reputation, that the g2 is a better light, but the pelican is my first jump into these waters, and if i like these style lights, i could always use more, add some surefires to the collection. plus im turning into a crkt junkie it seems like. so that pretty much decided the decision for me. sports did have a LOT of nice SOG and benchmade knives, 2 companies ill be picking up some knives from soon. but over all im VERY pleased with the light. for 34 dollars, if it didnt have the knife as well, id probably have gone with the G2, but for what i got, and what i payed, im very happy. i can't wait for night fall so i can try her out outside.

im thinking it may end up mounted on my ak, as its my backup SHTF weapon behind my glock/beamshot. can't hurt to have a little light on the end of the ak too...

once my photobucket decides to let me in, ill post pictures.
