QUOTE (hsracer201 @ August 4th 2009 8:36 AM) hey, i've got that same lid. good deal, i bet them buggers are fun. You've got that model of Fulmer too? Cool. Looks like we both have great taste. They are a freakin' blast! We're going out again this weekend (Friday) and are going to camp out until Saturday night. We're going early so we can get our favorite spot. I think we're going to take off before dark on Saturday in order to miss a lot of the lunatics that tend to show up on Saturday night. QUOTE (scotto @ August 4th 2009 12:58 PM) Freaking Awesome,,, like I said before you and the Mrs. Is always welcome to use my cabin and ride the hundreds of ATV trails around the White earth State Forest. Thanks, bro! Man, I really am going to have to see if I can't find a way to take you up on that. That would be textbook definition of super cool fun.

Oh, I'm a terrible Shoei snob. I started out with a Bieffe with my first bike ('89 Yamaha FZR600), then sold it with the bike. My next one was a Bell that the dealer gave me (for free) when I bought my 1991 ZX-6. That was only used on 2 rides until my Shoei came in. I had Shoei's the rest of the time until my final bike, I think I had 5 of them (Shoei's) total. My buddy sold me his 1998 CBR900RR and gave me his HJC. Okay helmet, by I am still partial to Shoei's. I'm really pleased with this Fulmer though. QUOTE (ccsparky @ August 5th 2009 6:41 AM) That's Great! Very nice machine! Great write up Thumper, you're going to have endless fun with those babies!!! Probably no mods as far as pipes. These have a really nice quiet exhaust note, and I like that. Besides, normally when you install aftermarket pipes, it requires rejetting the carbs. These are fuel injected. No lifts either. And as I discovered this weekend, they mud just fine as is. The only rack I might put on it is a rifle mount/case. They already have the luggage rack on them. We are looking at winches currently, but as we ride in pairs, it is not as much of a concern.

We do long runs on ours.
We have front, back, and fender carry bags. The only real modification (other than a rifle sheath that I can tie on or not) is a back rack off to one side of the back that allows us to either haul a 5 gallon gas can or on day trips a small cooler.
Its a neat thing, just make sure to mount it on the side that your exhaust isn't.
My son and I ride together him on the ATV and me on my TW200 bike. An ATV chews gas up way more than a bike. We could have gone smaller on the gas rack to match the bike but opted going larger to extend both of their ranges to around 150 miles. (Keep in mind mountainous trails and having some fun eat a bit more gas than flat land.)
Most OHV areas restrict camping to given areas, but some don't. Other times we do a point A to point B and have the truck meet us at the end of the haul. Camping with an ATV is a hoot. You can take a bunch more comfort stuff than either a bike or backpack. I know quite a few folks who do the trailer hitch option and small trailer for either around their place or long haul camping.
Most people I know who do off road stuff, find a local place which they ride regular then do occasional long weekend trips to other places around the country. Appalachia is just full of OHV areas and more being added all the time.

Very cool. I am picking up a used Yamaha 4x4 utility this week, mostly for work around the place, but I do love to tear it up every once in a while. Next year I'll be getting another, and the wife will get to play on the utility when we go somewhere.

I have more fun riding with her than I ever did riding with my buddies. (Granted, I didn't have my own ATV then either, I'd always have to borrow one of theirs). Tj That last part will be the wife and me. We plan on taking them up to the mountains (probably Colorado, or maybe even scotto's one of these days if we can work a vacation up for that). There are a few OHV areas (and OHV friendly areas) around here, but nothing like riding in the mountains. Dennis Kirk has a Kolpin (I think) cargo carrier that has 2 built in gas cans, but I don't think they hold very much. Maybe 3 gallons between them. I like your rack idea. Here is an account of our latest excursion.

QUOTE (hsracer201 @ August 10th 2009 7:43 PM) dude, i'm sorry they make ya'll wear those flags. i know they are a safety deal, but that sucks. aren't they constantly whipping tree limbs and stuff in the woods? They are required in some places, but not state wide. I don't mind them really. Mine saved my bacon already. A guy and I were headed for the same intersection at the same time from different directions, and he saw my flag coming over the top of the brush. He couldn't see me and I couldn't see him. Fortunately, I don't blast through the trail intersections anyway, so I was already slowed down, and he backed off when he saw the flag. (We pulled over and chatted for a while later in the day and were discussing ATV's when he told me about seeing my flag). I always thought the flags were a little silly, but at this point, I think I'd rather keep them on there, especially at the river. In the mountains or somewhere else, I might be more inclined to ride without one, but here, there is quite a bit of traffic, and it can come out of blind corners, etc. When Mrs. Thumper and I get separated on the trails, it's one of the ways that I find her (or vice versa) without having to use the walkies. They do hit trees here and there, but I never noticed it. The poles are fiberglass and are extremely flexible, and the base is a big spring. They don't whip around enough to smack my helmet or anything, and they give really well if they hit a tree limb. And they're cheap. If one rips off or I tear it up, they are easy to replace.

QUOTE (WakaWaka @ August 11th 2009 6:54 AM) Come on, don't ya wanna cook your deer before ya hit it? Negative. I try really hard to NOT hit the local fauna. I've seen what they do to cars. I can't imagine what they'd do to an ATV (and it's respective rider). I did, however, run over a rattlesnake Saturday. I don't know if it killed it or not as it was in sand, but I sure ran over him. (I didn't mean to. It was just all of a sudden there, so over him I went). Ah well, if it did kill it, it's just one less of those legless lizards. (We have plenty of 'em here).
