My father gave this to me, he found it back around 20 years ago sticking out of the ground about 100 miles north of Miles City Montana in the middle of no where. He was with a family friend of ours in a 4x4 checking out the back country when he noticed a small hunk of iron sticking up out of the ground. This thing is heavy as hell and is rusted shut. I can’t find any markings indicating the manufacturer or caliber all though it looks to be about a .30 caliber. There isn’t a town or ranch within 50 miles from where my father found it so this rifle has Got to be old.

Hey Brother,
At a guess, it looks like a badly decomposed Winchester 1885 High Wall Single Shot Rifle, or a copy thereof .
Respectfully,
Harry

My great uncle gave me a Spencer Carbine when I was a kid in about the same condition. He found it in the brush somewhere on the Nueces River done in Texas. If that gun could talk. My Dad thought it was a piece of junk and threw it away....darn it.
