If I were to apply for a license for a silencer, does the silencer have to be used on a specific firearm specified in the paperwork, or would it be legal to attach it to more than one firearm assuming compatibilty? Second question, if I were to buy a second silencer, would the $200 fee need to be paid for the second or any subsequent silencers, or is there just a fee for paperwork ? Third question, would an SBR be treated the same way as far as the $200 fee? Would there be one for each firearm? I know you need the paperwork for each serial number, but my question is for the fee. Thanks cb.gif

You have to pay the fee for every item. And you can use the silencer on how ever many weapons you want.

Go check out the Full Auto Armory in the AR15 Armory forum, there is plenty of info there.

$200 per NFA item except or AOW's which is cheaper.

Suppressors(they don't really silence anything and only suppress the sound) can be used on any weapon of your choice that it is made for, you are paying for that suppressor not the use of the suppressor on a specific weapon.''

It's a tax stamp, not a license also. You are paying the feds a tax for using a weapon or accessory they deemed too dangerous to allow it be sold unregulated.

So...do silencers have a serial number on them?

Silencers are their own individual item, yes they have a serial number and the stamp is for that item with that serial number.

Each Silencer or SBR there is a fee of $200.00 per item.

somethin about the SBR reg'ed lower has me confused though, in the paperwork does it state anywhere what length bbl is supposed to be on it, IE can the same lower be used to just swap out diff length SBRs on?

It is my understanding that you can use an upper with that bbl length and longer but just can not go shorter. for example if you have a registered lower and you registered it as a 10.5 you can use a 14.5 but can not use a 7.5.

That was what I understand. Register a 7.5 (I am guessing that is the shortest you can go) and you can always go longer.

Don't you have to register the overall length from buttstock to barrel end?

Ah, I wouldn't have too many SBR uppers lying around and only one registered lower (unless that's the only lower your going to own). It's not far fetched to be charged with 'Constructive Possession' even if you have no intent of putting an SBR upper on a non registered lower. I've seen this first hand.
