It was on there. It was also the anniversary of ABC's Nightline, if you recall. It was certainly newsworthy at the time, but I'm not sure it needs to be memorialized.
Newsworthy? It gripped the nation in rage and fear for almost a year. Where do you think the yellow ribbon tradition started?
Memorialized isn't the only reason we need to be reminded of this either. It should be played heavily here so the people remind Washington to quit screwing around with the mullahs and their puppet, Aquavelvajob. Enough coverage here and the mullahs might take the hint we are not in the mood for any more of these delaying tactics. The Iranians are the masters at delaying and side tracking so they can keep getting what they want. It took Reagan to state he would open a can of whoopass if the situation wasn't resolved by the time he took office. Sure enough, when faced with that deadline they took the hint. A bit more coverage and NObama might just have to take the hint about drawing a line in the sand over the Iranian nuke project.
I met several of the Marines who were held captive. They were treated worse than animals during their confinement. Segregated and each locked alone in lightless solitary confinement and basically starved almost to death simply because their captives feared them so much. None of their captors wanted to ever enter their rooms. A bucket in place of a bathroom that was rarely emptied and only a couple meals a week. Most supplemented their water intake by licking morning dew off the walls. But the Marines worked out Morse code communications between the walls and still trained every day. They had essentially no body fat left, but their muscles had grown whipcord tight. It was because the Marines stayed ready to act in rapid fashion that their captors began to fear them so much. Ever see the hands of a man who has nothing better to do all day then wedge his fingertips into the mortar lines of his brick cell and do fingertip pullups? I shook their hands and it was like shaking hands with a hydraulic press.
But since NObama wants to soft pedal this negotiation and let the Iranians stall for time, his news puppets are towing the party line.
A little memorialization wouldn't hurt right now to put some fire into the Washington apologists. It's sad that we have to rely on the French to be the hardliners on our side.
