A couple pics of the new 2009 Colt Delta Elite. Pic quality is not so good as it is just from my Blackberry but I am very pleased with the pistol. This is my second 10mm. My first is a DW Commander Bobtail.

Are you planning on accurizing it? (match barrel/bushing, 22-lb. spring, flat-bottomed EGW firing pin stop, extended slide stop and magazine release)?

Scott Hello, I am not planning on doing anything to it unless DoubleTap flings the slide back too much (like it does with my Bobtail Commander even with a 26# spring). In that case I will go to a SS GI plug (a FLGR did nothing for me when running 45 Super) with a Wolf spring (is 22# what is recommended?) and file on an EGW firing pin stop like you recommended. The only other would be if I manage to break the front sight off I will dovetail it. These new tenons are much thicker than the old days so I don't think I will have to. I even like the Pachmayr grips! Hoping to go to the range this weekend and have a report. I am curious on how that weirdo dual-spring setup works -- I know, I know -- it's on purpose, but my Colt Mustang had it too and it NEVER ran right until I replaced it. No need to fix if it isn't broken though.

QUOTE (nickE10mm @ August 27th 2009 2:43 PM) i personally would definitely leave it stock.... I am taking my words back in the other DE thread. This pistol looks like it will run fine in general out of the box. After thinking about it I reevaluated what it lacked in terms of "modern" features and found that most of them for me are really not necessary.

I would probably change the Pachmyar grips, just a personal preference. A nice set of VZ Grips in micarta inset with the "delta" triangle would look killer. There's a fella from Texas, who posts here, that actually does this custom work. He features grips from serveral custom makers with the delta logo. I just can't seem to remember his handle, but I thought he was a forum sponsor too. I wouldn't mind a DE in 10mm to round-out my collection of tens. Anyway, congratulations on your new pistol, post a range report if your inclined.

Absolutely! The 22-pound Wolff recoil spring and the EGW Flat-bottomed firing pin stop are a must for slowing down the slide when shooting full-house 10mm Auto loads. The flat-bottomed firing pin stop will permit the hammer spring (main spring) to work in conjunction with the 22-pound Wolff recoil spring to slow the "brisk" slide velocity imparted by Mike McNett's ammunition. This is a "fact of life".

Agreed that the VZ grips with logo would be very nice. But that would remind me that it does not have a checkered front strap

Scott Excellent, thanks for the advice. I wasn't sure on the spring weight. I am definitely sold on the flat FPS, although I want to break the edge. Seems like it would be hard on the hammer otherwise. Will see how shoots first though! Thanks for all the positive comments guys -- the pics do not do it justice. There is just something about a "new" old school O frame.

remat457: If you want to do yourself a BIG favor, go to a "match" grade barrel bushing setup and have it custom fitted to the Delta Elite (Bar-Sto makes a good one). Have your gunsmith fit it to the pistol, and you will never look back! (If I had a Delta Elite and wanted to keep it, this is what I would do)! Take my word for it, you'll never regret this decision!

Scott Ummm, that would be a good idea except that he's got a bull barrel with that new DE which means a normal match bushing wouldn't work....he's have to get a new barrel AND bushing. Unless that's what you meant....

If he has the "bull" barrel, perhaps Bar Sto can make an oversized "match" barrel for him. This would certainly be an improvement. Scott

Scott Ah, yes. I had Barsto hand fit me an oversized barrel on my old Glock 20 and it was, in fact, super accurate, however, I probably wouldn't touch a new, stock Delta. If I WERE to make any substantial mods, a standard match barrel / bushing fit would be a priority, yes. I don't much care for the bushingless barrel systems, myself.
