Some pictures from the zoo:

Except for the image of the rhinos all were manually focussed, exposed and handheld.

I've just got a point and shoot, but figured I'd give the macro setting a try after seeing you guys' awesome pics. I had my eye on a bumble bee flying around a flowering tree, but he never came down low enough for me to get a shot. Anyways, here's a couple I took this afternoon:

About the only things that get me outside for an extended period of time are grilling and shooting (guns), but I spent a couple hours outdoors today just looking at things I've never noticed before. Thanks for the inspiration guys, this is kinda fun.

Note: I realize these are probably God awful, but everyone starts somewhere, right?

Sweet. I love macro - those are great shots.

I don't have a new lens, but the old one still seems to be working for now. Would love to upgrade though.

Since everybody else is shooting macro shots.

Poor impromptu lighting. Table top war gaming hovercraft. I should have thrown a penny in there for scale, but the base it's on is roughly the size of a nickel. The models about the size of a honey bee.

Canon S5 IS
Super Macro
ISO 80
WB Auto
Canon CHDK Hacked on camera to DNG RAW to Tiff+NeatImage filter+CS2 Contrast and one level of Standard Sharpening. Then converted back to one whopping big Jpg to post.

Lighting still sucks but that Neat Image cleans up even the slightest bit of camera noise.
