i am building my first AR and have been looking around for lowers and so far i have take a liking to dpms but my wallet thinks other wise lol and with that in mind i went back online and found that spike had a there lowers pretty cheap but from what i have found out they are very tight fitting and have a shiny black coating. so i have went back again and landed on the black rain site and there lowers look sweet with the flared mag well. i plain on using multiple uppers for this gun and my first will be the ar57 upper using the ps90 mags and the mag well turns in to a brass dump shoot lol. i come to you people because well you know a butt load more then i do when it comes to AR's and any help would be awesome

Ive built a Black Rain lower and a Spikes lower. The Black Rain one is AWESOME. Thats really it. The finish is flat black, very smooth, and the machine work is top notch.

The Spikes is a very nice lower too, but its just your regular run of the mill lower. And on mine the coating was more of a semi gloss. Either will WORK fine, but the Black Rain one will look alot better doing it. lol

Another one to look at is the Mega Billet lowers.

Good price for a nice lower.

Why do you think the Mega Billet is any better than the black rain?

I have three Black Rail Lowers and they are excellent quality and superbly manufactured.

DPMS is a fine lower I have three of their rifles, so does my BIL and Father, so you would not go wrong with the DPMS.

Black Rain > Mega Billet.

That is my opinion. Yea a LOT of people love Mega. Good for them, I am happy they love them. That being said, I think that BRO is more aesthetically pleasing, and they are better built IMO.

Once again, that is an opinion. Mega has a VERY strong fan base.

Isnt the DPMS significantly cheaper than the BRO? I just bought my DPMS lower with parts kit installed and from searching around and reading, Im going to be very happy. Here is a website a buddy of mine linked me to, he has purchased a few things through them, and they seem to have pretty good prices from what I can tell.

Yes it is, Forged Lowers are cheaper than the Billet lowers, however billet lowers are stronger than forged since they use a stronger aluminum and the billet is machined from a block versus poured into a mold.

Nothing wrong with a $100 DPMS lower. Build a super rifle on it if you wish.

YHM makes a good one too at a good price.

I like the Tactical Innovations lowers that JTAC is selling. You have to add one to your cart to see the sale price. Link.

I never said the Mega was better than the Black Rain one. I dont have a Mega, but I like the looks of it, and the price is nice too. But I did pick up a Black Rain lower and this thing is sick. I love it.

You have to admit that $175 for a billet lower with an integrated trigger guard is a good price Nwatson. bigsmile.gif

Now I just need to get my hands on a BRO upper. Wish I could have gotten in on the group buy, but only had enough cash for the lower.
