I just recieved 500 round of lc xm193 ammo. It was loose packed witch doesn't bother me but it seemed to have a lot of dents in it. Nothing looks like it would effect shooting it but I was wondering if this was common and if I should be hesitent to shoot it.

Not centurion, lake city. Not that it really matters. I was planning on shooting it anyway.

The bulk packed is XM193 seconds. It's mostly cosmetic differences. I don't reload (yet) but I wouldn't load the ones with big dents.

I started shooting bulk, loose, ammo a few years ago; I discovered then, that case 'dings' are the norm in ammo packed/shipped thusly. As long as there's not an obvious case crack, you should be OK. thumb.gif

I was just looking to purchase some of the LC XM855 penetrator ammo, but was curious about being loose packed as well...apparently from the feedback it is merely cosmetics....so I am gonna add a about 500 hundred or so of that to my safe as well

If it's safe to chamber and fire, it's safe to reload. Fireforming cases is common for wildcat cartridges, so I wouldn't have an issue if it looked ok coming out of the rifle.

I believe this is very true. You won't even know which ones were dented as the dents will fireform out when you shoot it. You may end up with minor case mouth dings on extraction that will press out fine when you resize them. As long as there are no cracks, you will be fine.

Sat. I went out and shot 200 rounds though my gun. I had no problems with the ammo except 1round. The little groove that the extractor grabs broke off half way around the shell. Had to use a rod to get the shell out. After that no problems. The case was lc and it was marked 02. shooting the shells popped out all the dents.

It's amazing what 45,000 psi from the inside will do to dents in cases. It will even iron out the creases from stuff fired in fluted HK chambers.

That's one thing I've heard definitely not to do, reload brass fired from a fluted HK chamber.

I've shot lots of HK'd 9 MM's and years ago shot a fair amount of 308 when I first got into reloading. I never had an issue with it. I could see where structurally you could have lots of problems from repeated firings in an HK chamber or if you kept going back and forth from HK to normal but I doubt if a 1 X HK fired cases fired in a regular chamber over and over will have major issues. I could be all wet on this. I'd sure like to chat with someone that has done it with more than my limited experience.

There was an article in SWAT magazine a few years ago that stated not to reload HK brass. Actually I didn't get that issue, I got the next issue with a letter from a reader who stated he reloaded either HK93 or HK 91 brass. SWAT's response to him was reload it at all.

I can see the difference between reloading once fired (in an HK) brass and several times reloaded and fired in an HK.

I fired several rounds of HEAVILY dinged (CREASED!) brass-cased GA Arms "canned heat" a couple weeks ago outta my POF-415. I even loaded one mag with what looked like the WORST case creases to me - couldn't even MAKE it hiccup! thumb.gif

Again, if it's brass cased, and NOT cracked, you should be GTG! thumb.gif
