Mounted a DPMS 16" SS bull barrel assembly that's free floated I like very, very well but only came with a picatinny rail on top of the gas block and the handguards are aluminum so I can't mount anything on the one rail or it will block my scope. Looks like my best option for mounting a light would be under the barrel and this involves buying a four rail gas block apparently. Never changed one but looks like it would just unbolt and place a new one on? No sights to have to work around.

Its a piece of cake. Remove set screws and remove gas block, remove gas tube by driving out roll pin(left to right) with 5/64'' roll pin punch, intall gas tube in new block(make sure large hole is on bottom), drive block home, level and tighten set srews. Good idea to use purple loctite. Then go shoot it to make sure there are no problems.

I would not recommend putting anything besides a sight on the gas block. One little bump and you can knock it out of whack and the gun wont cycle. And if you are dead set on getting the 4 rail GB, DO NOT get a UTG one. I had one a while back, and the heat from repeated firing made it expand and move. Causing to gun to not work.

On my DPMS carbine there are two shallow ''dimples" drilled into the underside of the barrel that the set screws from the original gas block stuck down into. Not threaded holes just "dimples'' that the set screws stuck down into. That gas block was not going anywhere. If you can find a new railed gas block that has at least one set screw hole that lines up with one of these i think you could mount whatever you wanted on it.

Brownells makes (well sells with thier name on it) one. Its basically a single rail set screw type that is set up so you can bolt additional rails on any of the other three sides. They even sell a bolt on bayonet lug for the bottom of it. You can get the block and three additional rails for around 50 bucks if im not mistaken.

Have you thought about using a VTAC light mount? They are cheap, small enough to fit on your gas block, and have the light to the side so it wont block your view through the scope.
If you are afraid the base of the mount will get in the way of the scope (which I don't think will be an issue), you can look for a mount or riser that will elevate your glass.
