I never seen that trick before. I assume it just seats the bead and the tire still needs inflating?

I knew what it was without watching the video. You can use starting fluid too. BTDT, off in the boonies, after you've rolled a tire off the bead, it's hard to get it back. I routinely air down for nasty stuff, and once in a while, you get caught with a flat, and most portable compressors don't put out the volume of air needed to get the bead to seat.

Ether starting fluid works better, and it actually does the inflating. The rapidly expanding gases from the explosion force the tire into the bead and burning actually continues until O2 runs out. The conversion of liquid to gas results in much higher volume of "air" filling the tire. Not saying it will be inflated to 35# but it will be enough to go on. Problem is if the bead has any dirt on it it won't seal.

I watched a guy do a similar thing, destroyed the cage the rim was in and he ruined a pair of boxers.

That shat is dangerous as hell, that puts a ton of pressure on the rim flange and if it lets go it will peel your head off of your shoulders like a monkey opening a bananna.

I won't mention anything oxy/acet related... unsure.gif

Darwin was watching that one. I think it was around 20 seconds of spraying. You only need to spray once around the rim, takes about 5 seconds to get it done. And as someone else said, clean off the bead first if you can. Even if you still have a hole that needs to be plugged, you've still seated the bead and gotten the hard work done.
