I'd like to add a railed forearm to my spikes .22 upper. Dont want to spend the $$ on a GGG, troy, etc....its not that important...just want to have the ability to set it up like my real gun. Who has experience with some of the less expensive railed kits? what were your thoughts?

I think your best best is with one of the YHM rails. Nice price and well built, I have one on my SBR.

Midwest Industries has a non free float two piece drop in rail set here. The free float is just a little bit more, it's here. The free float is a two piece that you can install yourself.

I put a CAA M33 handguard set on my S&W

http://www.opticsplanet.net/caa-military-a...arbine-m33.html

Looks exactly like regular CAR handguards until you pull the rubber covers off. You wouldn't know the difference unless you held it up real close with those covers on. Only has two opposing rails, but that's usually all that most of us need. You can trim the rubber covers when you permanently mount something. You can also turn these either way so you have rails on either the sides or top/bottom.

At $75 and free shipping it's a great deal.

If you aren't looking to mount precision instruments or a ton of gear these are great and a great price. As easy to install as regular handguards too.

For others reading this I'm continually amazed at the deals at Optics Planet. For a camera company they have some of the best deals on AR gear. Their free shipping is always a pleaser to me too.

I'm surprised it took this long for people to realize the $400 piston conversion works as well as the $12 gas tube it replaced.

I have a UTG quad rail on my AR and it's solid as a rock. Inexpensive and well made.

I just picked up an AIM two piece alummunum quad rail at the local fun show for $69. No tax or shipping. Sometimes you can get a deal or two at the shows. It is held in by four allen screws and replaced my stock Bushy's great. Installed in 3 minutes and is solid.

I agree with coolsteve, for bang for your buck just add an accessory rail. I just put a 4" on mine and it took like 5 minutes and is pretty solid. I am not mounting anything more than a flashlight and handle so 4" was enough for me. I went with the MI 4" version.
