I have a Nordic Components Extended Length free float tube on my newest SPR build. I have their 12" rail and the bolt pattern won't allow it to be lined up for a continuous rail.

I know they are a sponsor so I hope a rep can chime in with an option. The rail I need is 14.5" long and should be the correct thickness. Anyone have an alternative rail That would work?

What are you planning on mounting on the rail that you need a continuous rail? Nothing should bridge between the upper receiver and the forearm. That's a recipe for bad things.

I understand your caution. I have seen YHM and a few other free float tubes done this way and I like the look. As well as I may want to install a full length riser as I see on Authintic MK12 Mod 1 SPR rifles as I like that look as well.

As long as the slots align, you won't need a full length rail on the fore-arm to install a full length riser. If the continuous rail look is what you're going for, you would be better served with a different fore-arm.

you could try a rail blank, but yer gonna have a pain in the arse getting the slots properly timed and then the mounting holes aligned

for authentic, you need an KAC 12inch FF rail for a mod1.
the mod0 will require a 12iinch FF PRI rail with either an ARMS peq 2-3 SPR top rail, or the clone PRI version.

what you are talking about fits neither group. so if you are building an SPR rifle, then i cant help you. If you want an mk12 mod 0 or 1 clone, i can point you to the correct parts needed...

I took the rail off and I am pleased with the prject as it turned out. I will save the 12" Nordic rail for another build. I may try the reduced diameter tube on another rifle. I can't have just one with a free float tube, right? http://i40.tinypic.com/1zluo1k.jpg

Anyone have a sense on the reduced diameter tube and ability to dissipate heat?
