Has anyone here tried it? If so what should I watch for? I have heard the RIA slide is soft and will not hold up.
Any comments are appreciated.

I have heard not to use them either... But i dont know how much truth there is to it... I am waiting for a reply from Armscor themselves... I have been in contact with them about it so if i hear something back I will certainly inform you of what they say

Hell Yes I would turn over my firearms. Bullets first then they can take them from my cold dead hands! I'll be dead but I'm not going alone. I would rather die as a free man than live as a slave.

Clark Customs makes 'drop-in' kits for the .460 Rowland cartridge. It's available for the following 1911's:

Colt
Colt Gold Cup
Springfield Armory
Remington R1
Kimber
Norinco
SIG Sauer
Smith & Wesson
Para Ordnance 'G. I. Expert' [Govt. 5" bbl. & Commander 4.25 bbl.]

*Not recommended for the following brands:
  • IAI (Israeli Arms International) - We've found the top lugs in the slides of the Philipines produced 1911s to be soft! We've not tested the Israeli made guns but would recommend extreme caution.
  • Rock Island Armory
  • Auto Ordnance
  • Taurus
  • Llama
  • AMT
  • Charles Daly
  • Essex
  • Remington Rand
  • Any "GI" 1911 (note: Springfield Armory Current Production models excluded)
I hope this answers your question.

I bought a Springfield to do the conversion! I would talk to Clark Customs before I would do it!! The 460 is a very powerful round and I would not want to destroy a nice gun with it

RIA is on the do not convert list. Always has been. As ZOZ pointed out from CCG's website here:http://www.clarkcustomguns.com/rowland.htm
Save your money for a higher quality one on the list! I am tempted to convert one of my SA's or DW's to the 460 R.
Save the RIA for plain ol' 45 ACP.
