I just picked it up this morning. It had everything I wanted, and the price was right. Removable carry handle with A-2 sights, plus a free floater forend. It came with 2, 20 round mags and the dealer threw in a 20 round Mag-Pul P-Mag which I really like. I'll be picking up a few more. I won't get a chance to crank it up until Monday, weather permitting.

This is my first .308 AR. I have a couple of Springfield M1-A's, and I'll be glad to see how this one stacks up. It seems like a nice, solid, well made rifle. Fit, finish, and overall feel look good, and I really like the sights. I'm still not used to the big magazine! When he handed me the Mag-Pul P-Mag I did a double take because I'm so used to .223. This thing looks like it's going to get shot a lot! Does anyone have any ammo recommendations? I've been running 42.0 Gr. of Varget under a 168 Gr. Sierra Matchking in all of my other .308's, and it's more or less been my "go to" round in that caliber because it runs well in all of my rifles. Anyway,I'm looking forward to lighting it up!

Congrats on the new rifle!!

I would love to have a 7.62 AR, but I'm gonna have to live with my M1A.

I would really appreciate a range report when you get to ring that puppy out. :thumb:

BTW: Does that handguard have any cooling vents?

None on the sides. It's open at the ends.

Very nice Bill!!!

Retcop, Ive had both, currently have the .308 AR.

And to be honest, I'm not sure which I prefer. I'd love to get an M1A again, but dropping $1500 in one shot is tough. The AR I built slowly over the course of a year or so. still cost me $1600  but it was spread out.

The .308 AR is easier to clean than the m1a gas tube, but the M1A is just so refined!

True that.

Plus I have always has a soft spot for wood and steel. I'm sure it will serve me well if the need ever arises, especially after I get my press up and running again, ammo is so expensive. I have the loaded model, SS match barrell and trigger, but the barrell is not glass bedded, so it can be taken down easily and cleaned or repaired properly. Still trying to decide on the best way to mount a scope. My cheap Redfield (i.e. Leupold) 3X9 will have to do for now. But I really like what the 7.62 brings to the table. If a 6mm family of ammo would catch fire in the AR platform I would certainly consider that, but the prevelance of 7.62/.308 ammo makes the next step up from 5.56 a no brainer for me, it's 7.62 all the way.
One of SA's advert lines has always stuck with me, "Sustained precision firepower". That is the same principle that excites me about an AR .308. The civvie version of the LMT the Brits adopted would be way cool. but $$$. Maybe the Scar heavy?
But I digress...sorry for the rambleing...

But a 7.62 AR is just sweetness...a true battle rifle, and a very versatile one at that.
Bill's 7.62 AR makes me drool...

BTW: My son-law got a good deal on some hunting rifles from an estate, and then traded a couple of them off on a used SA M1A. It's not in pristine shape, but it is mechanically sound, and shoots very well. He is an ace with iron sights from his Army days, (and perfect eyesight) and he makes that thing sing...where there is a will there's a way... :thumb:

Congrats to Bill on his DPMS, can't wait to read the range report, and maybe see some targets, I want to see what that baby can do, and how it holds up to sustained firing...Hurry up, will you, Bill???

I'll try. I'm hoping to get out next week to try it out. I want to wait until I have a whole day uninterrupted.

I have had a DPMS LR308 AP4 for over a year. Great weapon IMHO- no FTFs or FTEs through more than 300 rounds since new.
