Eh, I like big guns. Besides, I dont plan on doing much moving or stalking with it, and I really like the look and feel of it and love the cartridge. Any idea of the range and power capabilities? I know Zeytsef(sp?) really made that great shot but that was the only time I`ve heard of one so far with 7.62x54r.Seems fair. Kind of bulky for hunting, but they make intersting plinkers.

Yes but Zaitsev was usig a bolt action Mosin Nagant. The PSL was designed to be a Designated Marksmans Rifle, Not a true Sniper rifle. Intended range was 800 meters. Its a big AK action, unlike the SVD Dragunov. The Dragunov was supposed to be used with specific Sniper ammo (7N1) and was to keep three shots inside 3cm at 100 meters (About a 1 inch at 100 yards equivalent) . The PSL was supposed to be used with general issue Light Ball (LPS) ammo and had to meet a standard of 10cm at 100 Meters (About a 3" at 100 yard equivalent). The SVD was also supposed to be able to substitute heavy ball (D) rounds routinely, while the PSL was intended for light ball use only.
The two PSLs that I have shot with commercial and surplus 147 and 148 grain bullets would keep 5 rounds in 2.5-3" at 100 yards. I've never shot an SVD, but a Finnish Mosin Nagant M39 with a Sako Barrel was keeping 7n1 rounds at 1-1.5" with open sights at 100 yards. With Surplus heavy ball and light ball it was staying around 2"
The round itself is close to the .30-06, so it is a capable round out to 1000yds depending on the aplication. I wouldn't hunt with it past 500, much like I would restrict myself with the '06.

This one is complete, with the rubber eye piece and front lens cover. I figured the scope alone was worth a good bit.
Saw a PSL scope by itself in the local pawn shop for $120.
