Just got into it about a month ago and have questions regarding hauling live bait and hauling fish back into shore. So far I've just done catch and release but the flounder run will be coming up in a couple months and they come home to eat.

Your talking Salt Water and sharks right? Maybe knock 'em in the head and put 'em in a big trash bag? I read once that with the Floating fish buckets, blood and Distressed signals can still be detected by sharks. Not 100% sure on that.
I use a Sit-on-top type and blood can wash out, thankfully I don't have to worry about that up here. Be careful!

Just bought a cheap Pelican from Academy. I am just fishing the saltwater bayous and attached lakes for now. Looking at buying a Hobie or similar higher quality so I can go out at the beach into the Gulf.

Saltwater yes, sharks no. I love shark fishing but not doing it from a kayak! A good 30 or 40" bull red pulls you around, not trying any black tips or bullsharks

How much drag do those add? Does it make more difficult to paddle and manuever?

Yeah I know and there are no sharks in the areas where I said I fish with my kayak, the inland bayous and lakes. The sharks rarely come in to even the jetties.

Not much at all. Attach a line to the center rear of the kayak and then put the bait bucket and the fish basket at the end. Make the rope short enough that you can pulll it in one handed but long enough that it isn't bouncing on the back end of the kayak. Also long enough to keep the sharks at a distance so when they hit the fish basket they aren't in your lap.

You just keep on thinking that. Hardly a year goes by that someone doesn't catch a shark in the mississippi river in Illinois. Bull sharks are everywhere in waters that attach to the ocean or gulf. Driving back east over the tidal rivers it was nothing to see bull sharks swimming many miles from the coast. If it is tidal or connects to tidal waters, it can have bull sharks.

I will keep on saying that. I've lived here my entire life and have been fishing the same waters my entire life. No sharks have been seen or spotted in the areas where I fish with my kayak. It is very shallow water, even the dorsal fin on a red fish sticks out of the water when crossing at the "fish passes". A shark of any size would that could cause me harm would simply be beached and unable to swim. It's a big deal when someone catches a shark while surf fishing at the beach which is few and far between.

I'm 6'2" and weigh 280lbs. This 13.5 foot kayak with a wide berth and a tri-hull like design is perfect for my big arse

I'm eventually wanting to get a nice sit on top kayak. My next project is to mount a good off road light on the bow with a small battery for some night time fishing. The flounder go nuts at night when they are moving in November.

I'm not sure how to mount the battery so it's stable and about the weight. Wanting to use to those old 6volt latern batteries or a motorcycle battery. Just not sure how long they'll last. Don't want get stuck 3-4 miles from my truck at 3 am with no lights to find my way back.

If you need a lightsource have 3.

If you need a battery look at the batteries that go in the electric gators that are made of plastic. You can pick them up for not too much money and they are weather tight. You may have to look around but they will serve you well. They are deep cycle and lightweight.

Not sure how you could mount it on a sit on kayak though. It is easy with the sit ins just put it inside and push it up into the bow.

If it has a watertight compartment and most do you could put it in there.
