When did the idea of a "Modern Israel" REALLY start?

The Balfour Declaration.

Go to the link and read.

For starters:
The Balfour Declaration of 1917 (dated 2 November 1917) was a formal statement of policy by the British government stating that

"His Majesty's government view with favour the establishment in Palestine of a national home for the Jewish people, and will use their best endeavors to facilitate the achievement of this object, it being clearly understood that nothing shall be done which may prejudice the civil and religious rights of existing non-Jewish communities in Palestine, or the rights and political status enjoyed by Jews in any other country."[1]









Clearly this tells us that the British had planned, and even told the ARabs, that there was going to be a Jewish state there loooong before WWII and the Holocaust came about.

To me there is no "modern" or "ancient" Israel.

It tells me we have been cleaning up the mess the Brits made by drawing lines in the sand all over the Middle East and Africa.

India/Kashmir/Bangladesh/Pakistan was a nasty jumble of forced migrations and artificial lines that don't make sense.

Iraq and Transjordan should have been 3 or 4 countries.

Palestine? It wasn't really even a country after the Jewish Diaspora and was really just a jumble of coastal fishing ports and trade routes near Jerusalem. There actually is no proper ethnic group that can be proved by blood traits that defines who we call Palestinians today. They are a massive blend from all over the region that never was isolated enough to develop genetic traits that breed true. It's like saying Americans are a blood ethnic group. America is a melting pot blend of mutts and so are the Palestinians. Groups like that cannot claim territorial rights simply because of ancient ties to that patch of soil.

Africa? Do I even need to bother pointing to all the messes caused by borders that have nothing in common with tribal regions?


Someone should have taken the map crayons from the Brits grubby paws about the time of the American Revolution so the indigenous groups could have marked their own turf and squabbled over them until the lines were settled by themselves.

Actually, it was the Brits AND the French.

The Brits had the Mesopotamian area while the French the Palistine/Syria area.
