I'm looking into getting a new bolt carrier and bolt. I have a Smith and Wesson M&P 15. Is a chromed bolt and carrier really living up to there hype? And what is the difference between and M16 and an AR15 carrier. And would a full auto still work in mine? I'm not looking for a tack driver, it's gonna be a battle rifle. I'm just starting to get confused with all these different things. Any help would be appreciated. m4.gif

If you have a goo BCG already, then I wouldnt worry about it.

I have a standard BCG, and a Youngs Chrome M16 carrier. I like the Youngs better. The chrome is easier to clean, and needs less lube, thats about it.

The only difference between an AR-15 BCG and an M16 BCG is weight. Without the other full auto parts, its just a slightly heavier carrier which will slow the cyclic rate. Not a huge deal in a semi auto gun. But my AR with the AR-15 BCG will bump fire a shatload faster than the one with the M16 carrier.

Something wrong with your S&W BCG? If it's working fine then why mess with it. If you just have the urge to thinker then try Microslick.

I do own both a complete S&W and another AR with a Young BCG. I've swapped them before. There's a little difference, but not worth tossing a BCG over. I do like the cleaning factor of the YM and I'm sure it will wear a lot longer, but I'll be keeping the S&W BCG in the S&W until it gives me trouble or starts looking real worn.

It works fine, i just keep hearing from my buddies that there better. I also like to keep spare parts on hand for those just in case moments. But it's looking like I should just save my money for now seeing how it's performing just fine.

I always keep a spare BCG for each of my AR's anyway just because you never know when you might need it,but the microslik is a good idea also and having both wouldnt hurt at all. Like its been said if nothing is wrong with your Smith good keep it but go with a YM and keep one of the two for a spare. Always keep enough spare parts for those oh shat moments! By the way welcome.gif to the armory!

I'll get one of the YM BCGs then. What exactly is microslik anyways? I know exactly how the AR-15 works from being in the Army, but all the upgrading stuff is what i'm learning. m4.gif

Buy a YM chromed BCG at your leisure just to keep an awesome spare, but having that S&W BCG Microslicked is really all you need to do now. That should give you the cleaning and longevity bonuses you want out of it.

buy a spare carp 158 bolt with shot peening, and MPI. Grab some o rings and extractor rebuild kits, and call it a day bud. Micro-slick carrier and both bolts.
