Do not go gentle into that good night,
Old age should burn and rave at close of day;
Rage, rage against the dying of the light.

Though wise men at their end know dark is right,
Because their words had forked no lightning they
Do not go gentle into that good night.

Good men, the last wave by, crying how bright
Their frail deeds might have danced in a green bay,
Rage, rage against the dying of the light.

note: The more dried staples you have, the more water you need. It is hard to cook beans without it.

Add iodine. Can be used mediclally and for purifing water. Good fire starting tool.

I could do without the gas.

Um duh, WD40, duct tape and bailing wire. bigsmile.gif

I agree on everything else. I also keep Beadril in the truck. Good for bee stings. Of course I keep TP in the truck too. No fun cutting off a shirt tail.

Flashlights with fresh batteries. Basic first aid kit. Some kind of camp stove to cook in case there is no power/gas and campfires aren't practical. Hand crank am/fm radio. If there is some kind of disaster or civil disturbance information will be your best defense and that may be how you get that info.

(the ones that can ignite by swiping on mostly anything...not sure if the blue tip thing is universal for that type of match but still)

I agree with all of the above, but would add a large amount of canned foods: tuna, chicken, beans, veggies and fruits.

Not to derail this topic but how many guns do y'all keep ready to go in your house? Ever since the crime has increased in my area I have three, a 12 gauge pump with 4 in the magazine, a .40 with 12, and a .22 magnum revolver with 6. They are in different places in the house.

Do I sound paranoid? This happened about 2 miles from my home last week.

Potatoes, not only can you eat them and they keep for an extended period of time, but if you are attacked by Irish you can pick them off as they run around the lawn trying to gather them up. I won't say why I keep a basketball around.

I'm a bachelor, so the food part is easy. I have about 2 weeks worth of canned and no refrigeration needed foods on hand at any time. As I eat it I buy more and resupply. So just my normal everyday diet is foods that can be kept and cooked without any power.

For the firearm question. I have a 1911 with 3 8 round mags, a G21 with 3 13 round mags, a S&W 38 with 6 in the cylinder, a 12ga with 7 in the mag tube, and my AR with 14 30 round mags of Hornady T2 and 7 mags of Hornady 55 gr varmit.

There are flashlights that don't require batteries, you shake them. Same principle as the hand crank radios.

True. A couple of those would be great for general looking to see what you are doing. That would save money and maintenance of keeping fresh batteries on hand. The only thing I don't like about them is the beam is very weak. Excellent for a few feet in front of you. I would still keep a good battery powered light for distance and floodlighting an area or room.

Rope. Good stuff (hemp) and nylon as well. At the VERY least, you might be drying clothes on it again!

Don't think I saw "knives" anywhere. LOTS of knives, in all their many-splendored varieties. AND sharpening stones/files. thumb.gif
