Didn't see any hogs, but hunted during the day (saw several fresh signs) and til it got dark.

Anyone recommend some inexpensive (is there such a thing?) night vision (gen 3?), that will actually work?

here was my NV setup-- borrowed a GEN1.

When we relocated our gear, we came up with this mobile setup... this ROCKS!

When I go hog hunting, Id like to go when its dark. But no night vision has kept me from doing that. I just think it would be fun.

Ill have to check the legality over here though.

As far as good AND cheap NV. Good luck.

We can use spot lights, just that the one we brought failed to work, and it was so dark, our flashlights weren't good enough. Here, varmints can be hunted anytime.

Only coons and coyotes can be legally hunted at night here.

NV is expensive... but if you pony up for some good equipment it will do you right and last a long time.

I am sure that if you keep at it you will get what you are after. Are you allowed to bait hogs where you live?

pics from last Saturday... the previous weekend we built and deployed a hog bait system I came up with (I can post pics from that day if you like), and when we arrived, we checked on the bait-- definate signs of hog activity, plenty of bait left, and it appeared the hogs tried to run off with one tube, while trying to break another in half.

We have hunted at night with just using a good spotlight and were able to see things pretty clearly with our scopes but I think that not being able to see everything and get the big picture we were at a diss-advantage.
Now we hunt from dawn until dusk and call it quits for the day.
prett neat idea about the pvc pipe baiting system. What do you put inside, corn?
Do you stake it into the ground somehow?
Pretty cool.

its way too humid and too many bugs to be hunting at night....

We soaked deer corn from the feed store in cheap beer for a week, then filled the tubes... worked well actually. I went to Home Depot and came up with the PVC plan... and used cable to tie it down... looped one end around a crimp style clamp and pulled it through an end cap, then used a bolt style clamp to loop the other end around a fence post, or tree... glued the caps on, and put a threaded cap on the other end to refill the tubes. we deployed two of these things, and from the scrapes and tangled cables where they tried to take the tubes, this design worked well... I spent $50 in supplies and have a couple extra clamps and glue/primer left...

That is a slick idea with the pvc pipe. I read somewhere that soaking corn in deisel fuel works good to, keeps the coons and other critters out of it and they say the hogs love it.

I was looking through the Fall Cabela's catalog, they have an ATN Night Vision scope under $800. Cabela's exclusive.
