I don't know if you remember, but awhile ago I asked about smoothing out my trigger... I decided to give it a try, so I put the FCG out, and used some 400 grit sand paper and some 600 grit. I basically just polished the face of the trigger, nothing else. When I put it all back together, it was awesome...but I dry fired it a bit (20-30 times) and found that it went from nice and smooth to VERY heavy...way less creep, but really really heavy. I took the FCG back out, and looked at it, and it didn't look like anything had changed. I put it back together, and suddenly it was back to the nice smooth pull. So, I dry fired it some, and it started doing it again! But this time, a few times it was like the trigger put was ridiculously light, but only after I would pull the trigger. It would catch on the disconnecter, but as soon as I started to move my finger (and therefore the trigger) forward, it would drop the hammer instead of catching. Any ideas? I noticed that the hammer catch where the trigger acutally trips isn't level...I didn't mess with it, but I did notice that. Would simply smoothing the front of the trigger cause me all these problems?

All of those and more. You are not the first person to end up with a "release trigger" after messing with the parts. Easy fix is replace the parts.

ETA, the varying trigger pull is a sign that there may be abrasive left in places it shouldn't be.

So should I order a new trigger? This one looks pretty good...16 bucks shipped. Is this something that I can fix, or is it a lost cause?

I would buy the entire fire control group and send it to Bill Springfield to have it tuned. There's a fire control group here: click. You will need to send your springs that you already have. Or you can buy a pretuned 4lb fire control group from him for $85. Here's a link: Triggerwork.net.

It seems kind of expensive, and I don't have much money to throw around... I dunno though. Hopefully I wouldn't need to buy a whole new FCG group...just a new trigger as thats the only thing I messed with.

If you look at the trigger you will see that you probably have dished out the front contact surface. Just buy a new trigger and leave it alone until you can have some of the guys on her work it for you. It costs $$'s to learn the tricks. Sometimes your first go around works sometimes the dragon wins!!

I had an M16 that was doing this on semi and by replacing the trigger I got that one pull one shot stuff back. The release thing was at work in my case.

I misread your post. I would just get the trigger then but I would save up the $35 to have the trigger job.

Maybe Bill Springfield has one to sell already, saving you that effort.

Thanks... I'm thinking that probably someone has one left over from a LPK that they replaced the trigger or whatever, and would want to sell it.

Norcal - you want just the trigger or the springs and disconnector too? If you just need a standard trigger I should be able to hook you up!

Let me know!

Yeah all I'd need is the trigger...you got one you want to part with? I'm using a DPMS LPK, not sure if that makes a difference or not...

So, I just got back from the range. I didn't have any problems trigger not catching...But after doing the polishing like I mentioned, it had a awesome pull...like smooth and it didn't catch or anything until it broke. But after dry firing it, at the range it got all screwed up and had a VERY short pull, but it felt like it was 10 pounds! So I was pulling my hair out... Anyway, so new trigger I guess. I just wish I could acutally fix this, but oh well.
