Ever heard of a 1006 regulator?

I was at a pawn shop and saw a smith 1006 10mm and on the slide it says regulator in black.Ever heard of this or seen one like it?

No one seems to know. I`ve been watching your post for any responses. It sounds like something that may have been done by one of the previous owners. If it`s a professional job, I know there are places that do laser etching. Maybe I`ll call S&W & see about any info. - R.J.

My uncle just bought a 1006 S&W 5" barrel it say's REGULATOR in black on the right side of the slide I've looked all over the net for info and found none .Did you ever find out what it means? Thanks.

Did your Uncle purchase this off of Gunbroker.com? I ask because that 1006 has been listed for quite some time. I thought $575 was a pretty decent price, but I couldn't bear to have (what I thought of as) non-stock writing on the slide. I think that's why it may have taken a bit longer to sell. If he didn't get it on GB, then I wonder where the "Regulator" engraving comes from as that would make this the second one I've heard of...

THE "REGULATOR" was discused on the S&W forum...i believe that it was a customized pistol //
