I was looking at the CMP site. They are backordered on the Service Grade Springfields-saying it will take 6 months to get one. 4 months to get an HRA, and I'm sure that will get longer. From my own interpretation of this, it seems like Service Grades may be thinning out. If you are thinking about ne, I would put an order in. They may still have plenty, but you never know.

I havent been to the CMP board in a while (got sick of the ammo whiners), but back in the fall I remember Orest throwing out 5 years until the supply was gone. Like you say, it's hard to tell. I'm expecting the HXP to be gone before long too.

Unless a nice HRA or IHC falls into my lap, I'm done buying, and I'm sure as hell not building another one. I'm going to stock up on some spares and shoot mine as often as I can.

Back in Feb. I drove down and picked up a Winchester Field Grade and six cans of ammo. Still waiting on a Stock set for two months and counting!

Been waiting for my Carbine order to hit the e-store since march but still no word on it. Should have sent it registered mail or something so I could have known that it at least got there.

Went to the CMP store over in Alabama...they did not have any Service Grade on hand. Was told to get on the backorder list.....three or four months out. Guess now may be the time to get one on order.

More people are getting involved in the shooting sports.

Here are the requirements for a CMP rifle:
1.)Proof of US citizenship.
2.)Proof of over 21 age.
3.)Proof of membership in a CMP affiliated club.
4.)Proof of participation in marksmanship shooting activity.
5.) NICS check.

The cool thing is rifles can be shipped right to your doorstep from the CMP. How cool is that! I can’t think of anything better than the Fed. Gov delivering a rifle to my door. It’s one of the few things I want my Government to do for me. smile.gif

You do not have to shoot in a CMP match. All you need to do is show membership in an affiliated organization. They have a list on the site. If you aren't a member of one, you can join the Garand Club and that qualifies you.

Some of these guns and the parts for them won't be available until 2010. That is a sign of high demand.

Have a Springfield Garand which I got about a year and half ago and just got my Inland Carbine a few weeks ago. Finally got the ammo for the carbine today. 500 rounds. Still have more on backorder.

You have to take some sort of shooting class though. Getting a CCW makes you eligible because you have to shoot for it.
