You would leave the front sight on because the back up sights are the irons. If the EoTech fails, you swith to the back ups.

What he said. As unlikely as it is, if the Eotech goes dead, I flip up my BUIS, and I'm good to go.

yeah no i understand that. for example. why use the traditional fixed front sight/gas block instead of using a flip up front sight mounted on the gas block...know what i mean?

Because most people's guns come that way. It doesn't get in the way.

I have fixed front sights on my guns, except for the Armory GPU.

don't look through the sight, you won't have a problem... use both eyes. you can completely block the front and the sight will still work-- makes it an OEG.

People always b****/complain at me for this setup, and say my laser/light should be on the bottom since I have a rail... but this functions much better, isn't in the way, and my thumb operates the TLR-2 and the polarized filter on the Reflex II.

you guys with the eotechs and BUIS-- do you sight in your BUIS through your eotech, or without the eotech? I sight in w/o the optic should I have to remove it or change it.

I run my EOTech 512 on a YHM riser mount that puts the iron sights in the lower 1/3 of the EOTech window. This way the front sight base does not intrude as much yet I can still flip up my rear BUIS and use irons should I need to.

I sight my irons through the EOTech glass and they line up in the bottom 1/3 of the window.

Since the EOTech has no magnification and is basically just a clear piece of glass, zeroing the irons through the EOTech or with it removed should make no difference.

Does that answer your question?

yes, it does answer my question.

As to your comment, actually, it should make a difference-- its called refraction.

On the other hand, you can make the argument that if you plan to use the BUIS through the glass, you should sight it that way, to take into account refraction.

I wasn't saying which is preferred-- I just said refraction is an issue. I was originally asking which way you guys prefer to sight them in.

I swap optics, so I sight them in w/o the optic. Also, if your optic breaks, to where you cannot clearly see through it... then again, I'm sure it'd be pretty close anyway for "government work"... but, one could always sight in with, then sight in without, and count the clicks...
