I witnessed something like this when I was 15. We were vacationing in Kansas - staying at Pomona Lake (res) and I was wondering over by the boat launch near the campground. There was a guy in an old truck trying to launch his boat. Problem for him was that either his parking brake gave out or his transmission gave out or both - because the truck didn't stop until it was underwater. The boat was still attached to the trailer by the winch line - and somehow had capsized during this failed launch. Instead of a tow truck showing up like I expected - a big line truck from the local utility company shows up - big winch on the front. Running what I'm guessing now to be 3/4" cable - he snaps onto the tow hooks on the front of the truck and yards the whole damn works out of the water. Poor bastiages had to flip the boat and
try to recover what they could of what got dumped out. I don't recall what happened much after that - I'm guessing they probably had a flatbed come and tow both the truck and the boat home.
I've watched a lot of boaters forget to install the drain plug before launching - only to realize this after parking the truck & getting the family on board.
I watched one guy like this launch his boat with an old early 80's Mercury (or maybe it was a Lincoln) sedan. He had what was probably a 14 foot glass boat. When he launched he had the damn trunk lid partially submerged - his brake lights & exhaust were well underwater. Wife was NOT impressed with his seamanship from what I could tell. He got all pissed off about forgetting the plug that instead of just pulling the boat out of the water, draining the water out, installing hte plug and continuing their day - he snorted and huffed and swore and sped off after getting the boat back on the trailer.
Attention to detail!
