Easy now, you're not a REAL Texan.

Clam chowder and chili have one thing in common, neither one has beans. wink.gif

No offense guys, but as someone who just likes Chile, with beans and without (though I do draw the line at the Ohio style sweet stuff put over pasta) I would like to see less bitching and more recipies. Spare me arguments, broaden my culinary horizons.

Just have a Texan make it.

Beans are for mashing and frying, not chili!

If beans were supposed to always be in chili then why bother with the warning label on the cans?

For a whole boat load of great Texas recipes: http://www.g6csy.net/chile/recp-texas.html

No beans in any of them, but a hundred good choices there.

everyone knows that chili must have beans, or there is no reason to eat chilli..... bean food is what makes a man a man... nothing like a hot, burning rotten garbage fart from chili in the cab of the pickup truck on the way to the duck blind or deer stand when the heater is on high and those with you can not escape.... that is pure man fun.....

The occasional chicken chili is fine, as long as the rest of the ingredients are in place. You know, the peppers, the tomatoes, the spices, and the beans mashed, and fried for serving alongside.

Beef is what belongs in chili, but chicken can be substituted for those who can't have much red meat. Chili can actually be very healthy if you do it right.

Speaking of poor people's food, anyone have a good recipe for menudo? I haven't been able to find any around here for quite some time, I miss it.
