i know this has proberly been covered already but i can't search the archives until i've had more posts. i'm thinking about a new pistol, i have a colt 1911 and a glock 21 and a glock 27 already. love those glocks ! i started reading alot about the sigs and they look real nice but i sure notice alot of people on this forum have alot more glocks than sigs. at least on the handgun picture thread. i know i will get a much more informed opinion on this forum than just googling glock vs sig. so whats the skinny. glock or sig?

They are two different guns. If you have never owned a Sig 226 then you owe it to yourself. For what it's worth, I have a bucket full of Glocks and right now only a few Sigs. I love Sigs but I have no interest in the polymer models. That is what H&K is for. Glocks are great because if you can shoot one then you can shoot all.
Just one person't opinion. Shoot all of your buddies' guns and figure out what you want.

Sigs are more expensive. And made of metal, like a gun should be. They are very accurate out of the box. Here are mine.

Satchmo, you never fail to crack me up. Sigs are great guns, very well engineered and well constructed. So are Glocks. It's just a matter of personal preference, that's all -- how does it feel in your hand, balance, grip, how does the trigger feel, do you prefer a gun with a hammer, or hammerless... stuff like that. IMHO you can't go wrong with a Sig. Here's mine. The Mosquito, .22lr.

Both are great guns, both are accurate, and both serve their purpose well. That being said, Nestromo put it perfectly, apples and oranges.

I really like the de-cock lever on the Sig.
Does any other brand have this feature?

I like the Sig 226. Good, solid gun, that just always works. I swapped mine for a G19. I don't regret that for a moment.

My only complaint about the SiG is that the slide sets a lot higher on the frame than the Glock. This increases the perceived recoil and makes for a slightly slower follow up shot. Other than that SiG's and Glocks are fine weapons. I've trained a lot of people to shoot both. Mike

Both are good, although Sigs are little pricey for what they are in my opinion. I'd gladly buy a used Sig if the price was right I just can't bring myself to pay what they want for new ones.
But a side by side comparison is kind of difficult. Because although the end goal(a reliable combat pistol) is the same, the routes they take to get there are totally different. Glock is utilitarian with absolutely no frills, bare bones. Sigs are refined, some are just downright sexy in appearance and have "creature" comforts I guess you could say with the ability to change grips and different triggers and actions to choose from.
So it's kinda like comparing a full blown race car to a McLaren. They both can do the same things and do it well but are two totally different creatures in the process. One does 200 mph in comfort with air conditioning, stereo and and smooth ride while the other does 200 miles per hours but it's loud, stinks, rides like shat and is hot as hell.

I've owned both, now I'm Sigless. I can shoot them fast and accurately, but there is more muzzle flip compared to a Glock, due to the higher bore axis.
If you want a Sig, find a used, older one. Sig's quality control has dropped off in the past few years, and their customer service is lacking, from recent posts. I know of a few local shooters who are die hard Sig fans, and say they would never buy a new Sig with the way things are going there.
Sig has begun manufacturing many of their parts here in the U.S. instead of Germany. Sounds good when you first hear it, but it's not. Just ask the MA State Police. They traded their older, reliable P226 .40's for new railed DAK P226 .40's, which immediately started locking up on the firing lines during familiarization and qualifications. They had to reissue the older pistols until the problem was resolved. Sig traced the problem back to some part in the firing mechanism (I'm sorry, I don't remember what part it is), that was now made in the U.S. Instead of producing it the same way they did in Germany, they decided to eliminate a few machining processes to cut costs. Unfortunately, those processes were for clearance cuts, and the result was pistols binding up. The MA State Police threatened to cancel the contract unless they replaced the part with German parts in every pistol (almost 3000 of them).
Older Sigs? I've never had a reliability issue with them. I've owned three, and some of my friends own 10+.
But, I have to agree, you can't really compare Glocks to Sigs. They are completely different pistols.

If you can find a nice German Sig - I would take that route.. You would look for the roll pin, this would be the sheet metal slides.. Some of the best Sigs very made..
The only newer Sig - I would recommend is the Sig Pro SP2022. There are 9mm's out there with triple serial numbers - all german parts - that are very nice pistols..

I carried both on my SORT Team. I started with the SIG and went to the Glock. I got tired of fighting the double/single pull of the SIG and opted for the consistent trigger of the Glock. The SIG felt better shooting but I could hammer the Glock better over a COF.
I have shot 1911's and revolvers in IPSC national level matches successfully and the Glock came closer to them then the others. Additionally my BOP issue firearm for escort duty (that I taught) was a DAO Ruger. I shoot those very well. Most of our "inexperienced" shooters found the lack of safeties and decockers were much less challenging to them and they had good success with qualifications.
