so i go to get a pistol permit application today. and im reading this thing. i am so frustrated.

first off i need 4 references...i have to have them. no one is gonna sign to be a reference, not in this sue happy world. god forbid something happened, you think a person wants that responsibility of being a reference. its set up to be like "if something goes wrong we need someone to blame so we can blame the references."

then it asks have you received a traffic summons in the last 5 years...is that some kind of joke?

im suprised they didnt ask me if i ever got suspended or had detention in school.

there are so many more questions i dont wanna get into.

everyone says move south or replies with a comment like that. id love to live in virginia. but this is my home, eventhough i cant stand nyc and wont go near it, long island is where i live. i may love my outlaw country music, and i may love my western books and movies, but i dont plan on being a drifter or just ramblin around to get what i want. i guess im just venting.

i really wanted myself one of them springfield xd's.

NY is one screwed up place. You need to pm Captainbarred. He is pretty familiar with NY requirements.

BTW, DID you ever get detention? laugh.gif

I can tell you what the FL application looks like. Basically, its the form 4473 questions. Answer them, send in the fingerprints, and you get your permit.

You can get a FL CCW, you know. It isn't good in NY, but it will allow you to carry in a lot of states. FL is a shall issue state, meaning if you qualify, you get it. No discretion. It is available to anyone, resident or non resident of Florida.

I'm sorry- I think I misread your post. Are you saying you need a permit and approval just to BUY the gun?

it takes 6 months to process i hear.
it cost $10 for the processing of the permitt
i also need $90 for them to process my fingerprints.

you need to obtain a permit just to buy a gun.
i think you need a judges approval to have a concealed carry.

When that lying SOS liberal politician opens his mouth proclaiming "I don't want to stop any law abiding citizen from owning a gun. I just believe in reasonable gun control" this is exactly what he is talking about and the decision of the OP exactly the results he desired.

He puts a barrier so high that any reasonable man would not want to climb it unless his life is on the line then puts a time limit on it to where even then it would do him no good.

Like the poll tax in the south during segregation put voting out of the reach of the average citizen, these laws put gunownership out of the reach of average citizens. Meanwhile the criminal is buying out of the trunk of a Cadillac and the only thing his law accomplished was upping the price.

In short, you don't buy the gun you want, he wins and the 2nd Amendment is defeated.

The only way we can fight this tyranny, yes I said tyranny for my English comprhension isn't that of a child and I do understand "shall not be infringed", is to buy those guns as we stand up to be counted. Don't hide from the list, we are the list. We're the list you better listen to or find a new career.

ladies & gentleman mark levin!

ps- i did have a misdemeanor years ago, my probation officer let me off early last year and i called her to ask her about certain question on this permit and i wanted to use her as a reference but guess what:

a reference has to be someone you know for more than a year
they cant be a police officer
they cant be 2 people from the same family
they cant be a husband and wife combo

so where am i gonna find references who are gonna say i have good character and sign it!

I'm glad I live in Georgia where aside from a few dumbass leo kids (yes kids, these little 18 year olds that just got out of post and are a little hot under the collar but mommy's still gotta buy ammo for their weapon) no one bothers you about guns. It took me 3 months to get my CCW because the GBI is slow, but the only "out of my way" thing I had to do was go to the SO to get fingerprinted. I've been wanting a suppressor or some other NFA toy and was worried the local Cheif wouldn't sign off on it, but met a guy last week that has 3 or 4 full autos and several suppressors, so I think I'll be good to go.

The stupid tax lawsare going to drive even the non-gun folks out of NY. The 'tards in office don't understand that as they increase existing tax rates and levy new taxes they drive tax payers away and actually lower state tax revenue. Dummies can't even do basic math.

You've got a lot of reasons to move. Bawdy Barn or not Long Island will be there long after the dumb arses ruin the state and make it unavoidable to adopt some conservatism once again. You can alway's hope it's before you die, and you could return home.

Leave, save yourself some of the money you earn, instead of giving it to the idiots and let them lie in the bed they've made until they realize it's made of failed philisophy.

I'm down in Kings Bay, in the South East corner of the state, about 3 miles from the FL border, where the submarines hang out.

Operated a beef ranch in Upstate NY for two years before I went to college. Watched dogs kill cows over and over and couldn't carry a pistol to stop them. Never could keep a rifle close enough when working. Couldn't do anything without tripping over some stupid law. When they make it almost impossible to live and work without breaking a law, they cause people to more easily identify themselves with outlaws. If I can't make a living without breaking some laws, then it is an easier step to making a living by breaking the law.

My parents bought 500 acres there, two houses. By the time the land was payed off, they had payed more in land taxes than they had paid for the property. Biggest dairy farmer in the area ran the numbers and found that after taxes and state-imposed low milk prices, he would double his income by going on welfare.

While I was there people were moving to NY daily to be on welfare there. We saw people move from California to NY because they got better welfare benefits there. The county may parents are in had about 75% of the population on welfare. A lot of those don't pay rent because a landlord can be forced to rent to a renter he does not want, and once someone is living in the property it is almost impossible to evict them. Family in my parent's church bough a house 3 1/2 years ago that had renters in it. They are still living in another family's basement because they can't get the non-paying renters out of their new house.

My dad still works in AK, and has to pay NY income tax on all his income, plus a penalty for not paying in advance.

The longer this stuff goes on, the more decent people just leave. The more decent people leave, the greater the burden on those that remain. NY City owns the vote, and they just can't see it.

Apply for that permit and get it.

Ah, closest I've been to there was Cumberland Island, long time ago, usually I don't stray further than Savanna, and that's a good 4 hours away.
