It looks fuzzy if you look at it. Focus downrange on the target and it will be sharp and clear. It's normal. You don't look at it, you look through it.Go outside and fool with it.

GM and Oak are right on about dialing down the brightness. Also the focusing on the target rather than the Red Dot helps. I had the same initial thoughts when I first got mine, but don't even notice it anymore.

I think they are several dots that make up the 65 MOA ring, and this causes it to look fuzzy, especially when dialed up on the brightness.

wonder if it has to do with my prescription glass's?

im getting to the point where i might sell it and get a different optic!

sorry for the mini rant, but i have been working with it from day one,and i just cant get it to focus right....

Chunks,

Sorry to hear about your frustration with the EOTech, maybe a Vortex or Aimpoint would suit you better if the fuzz is bothering you that much. I do think that the 512 EOTech is one of the bst optics available for the AR platform out there.

How do you have it mounted, how far is it forward? Are you looking at it during the day or night? Are you focusing on the center dot or the entire 65 MOA circle?

A lot of questions, but these have helped me out.

have it mounted on the flat top, front edge just over the delta ring, tried both ways focusing on the center dot works better but seems to still blur a little...darker rooms or hallway with it turned down almost all the way seems to work the best, but during the day no matter what i do i just cant get it to clean up....

hope that makes sense?

Scott,

It does make sense, have you actually went to range and tried it out? I was skeptical until I did. It a Holographic sight and makes for a blurry ring. I really don't think it will clean up any more, but if you go and shoot and focus on the target, you may have a different view on it.

If I turn my EOTech's on right now in the house, I still get the fuzz, but it is hardly noticeable when I am shooting.

You mentioned prescription glasses...

Are you near-sighted or far-sighted?
This could be the 'problem.'

I know if I look through an Eotech with my readers on, everything is fuzzy.
BUT, if I move the sight further from me, the 'fuzz' disappears.

Try moving the Eotech forward, toward the muzzle of the rifle. Eotech holo sights can be placed much farther forward on the rail than you would expect. I've seen 'em way out there, past the Delta ring, and they are just as effective as if you had it closer to the charging handle. Remember this, the Eotech is not a telescopic sight, there is no magnification. Therefore, eye-relief is a non-issue.

As others have mentioned, look 'through' the sight.
Don't concentrate on the dot or the 65MOA circle.
Concentrate on your intended target, not the image in the sight.

If you have astigmatism the reticle will always be somewhat fuzzy and never clear up. Everybody's eyes are a tad different and some people with astigmatism will always have problems with this kind of holographic lens.

i am near sighted,i guess i am going to have to give it the live fire test....

did another test last night,if i squint it really becomes defined and clear....so im pretty sure it has to do with my eyes or glasses, not the optic

thanks for the replys!

I have issues with my eye sight too....I have experienced the "fuzz" every now and then too. The more yu use it the better it will get. I do admit I did get another eye check and new glasses....don't see "fuzz" anymore. smile.gif

I sat and practiced focusing with mine for a while. I'd focus on a doorknob across the house or a lampshade or whatever. Took a while, but I got to the point where I could get it in perfect focus even at relatively close distances.

I have contacts myself, never really tried it with my glasses on.

The whole idea is fast target aquisition. When folks are shooting at you and you're shooting back- fuzzy don't matter, fast matters more. It's not meant for sniper duty, it's a cqb optic for street to street, house to house, and room to room fighting.

i have to turn my 552 as low as possible to get the finest picture otherwise it is a glared sparkle, my sight (vision) is not perfect but for what it is i am satisfied. the Aimpoint is much clearer but several hundred dollars more. there are positives and negatives to all of them but i can aquire a sight picture very fast and slam steels very fast. i also like to toss a water bottle up on the dirt hill and nail it over and over as fast as possible to keep it moving. BOY ITS FUN!!

Hey Chunks...
I'll pass on a tip given to me several years ago.

On every set of glasses the reading(magnified) lens is ground into the bottom portion of the main lens.
On the progressive lenses you have to find the 'sweet spot' to get focus... that's what I wear.

But, a good friend of mine had a set of shooting glasses made up with the 'close up'(magnified) portion of the lens at the top of the main lens.

That way when he lowers his chin to acquire his pistol sights or to get a good cheek weld on his AR, he can look through the top of his glasses and sees the sights in perfect focus with his right eye and the target is still in his normal range of vision with the left eye(he's shoots right handed).

He took his pistol to the eye doc and explained what he wanted...
You might ask around for an eye doc that understands shooter's needs?
Be sure to take the rifle and Eotech with you...

All the best.
TJ

not saying that the EO was a bad optic, just not for me
