dye sublimation

Any of you guys using a dye sublimation printer? is the quality realy as good as geting prints done at a shop? are they worth it?

All of my prints are done at a lab. The guy I shoot with at the dirt track prints his own and uses a kodak dye sub printer. They are nice prints but I haven't seen a side by side comparison.
