i found double tap on the web a week ago after i bought another g20 (sold my last one 10 yrs ago) and orderd 3 boxes of the gold dot hollow point. my big question is this ammo considered a true factory loaded ammo for duty use (i work for the sheriffs office.) and or personal defense? is it going to be lawyer resistant in a court situation ? the reason i am asking is i am planning on using my 10 for duty carry as well off duty.

thanks

My search-fu is failing at the moment, but I recall reading an account of a person who had their GLOCK fail, and GLOCK had determined that Double Tap ammo was considered to be factory ammunition... Hopefully someone else can locate the article itself to point at. Of course, I hear a call to GLOCK (or to Mike@DT) might be able to answer that for yourself too...and maybe they'll even give it to you in writing to show your department.

Out of curiosity, what weight(s) of gold dot did you choose?

Cheers, and welcome back to the 10mm!

thanks for the reply. i have always heard different legal chit chat about using reloaded ammo for self defense/duty use. the story has been a liability issue. in my simple mind if i am forced to shoot someone it shouldn't matter what ammo is used as long as it gets the job done. but the last thing i want to do is get myself and/or the department in a lawsuit if i ever have to use my 10mm.

the 180 gr gold dot DT is the ammo i purchaced.

Yes, DT ammo is "factory" ammo, same as the Big Boys (Remy, Win, Federal). DT ammo IS NOT reloaded ammo.

McNett/DT uses all new components, including the best in bullet technology, and has done extensive load testing with what he's brought to market. With respect to his 10mm JHP line-up, Mike tested a variety of loads for accuracy in each of the given bullet-weights before selecting a particular loading (at a particular velocity/energy level in the high-performance range) for that weight & style of bullet (Golden Sabers/Gold Dots/XTPs/Noslers, etc).

Although the 10mm- and/or DT-haters like to avoid addressing their hypocrisy when it comes to Mike's company, DT is no different from any other SMALL-ish, family-owned, so-called "boutique" factory ammo-maker like, say, Black Hills, Hornady, Corbon, Buffalo Bore, Georgia Arms, and, in the past, Pro Load.

In fact, Black Hills is the exclusive "factory" maker of the .556 MK262 Mod I 77gn OTM round being purchased by the U.S military and used in Iraq and Afganistan. I've shot quite a bit of BH's pistol and rifle ammo in various calibers, and it's all GTG stuff.

Ditto for DT's 10mm ammo.

Don't let anyone tell you that an ammo-maker's "size" determines whether or not its ammo is real "factory" ammo.

I'm probably going to carry DT in my .40S&W. But I don't like the idea of the procecutor saying "Don't you use DOUBLE TAP" amunition." if I have put two rounds in a bad guys thoracic cavity.

I would think as long as your C.O. and your Weapons Armoror approved the weapon and ammo for carry that you should be covered legally.

Most likely true. But it may now work for a non-LEO carrier like me.
