it's that time again. Ok I got 3yrs here on this island that doesn't allow personally owned firearms, so I got time to let my ammo fund buildup and become a new gun fund, I'd like to get 3 new toys but I know the wife will cut my bones to one prolly, so what I been wanting is 1) 6.5G SPR, have decided as long as Addax still has em I'm gettin an ATAC in6.5G, 2) somethin in .308 prolly a POF and finally 3)a short barrel .45ACP, BAzooka Brothers wasn't a company I'd known about until I came across a thread and that grease gun lower with the uppers they carry looks sweet. So the decision is which one do I go with?

Get them all! Here's how. Tell the wife you are having a buddy buy that ammo for you a bit at a time back in the states while you are on The Rock. You'll be mailing him a small regular check. The excuse is you are worried about new liberal laws to be enacted before you return. Given the 2010 election that's no lie at all. She assumes it's now spent on ammo sitting in a stateside closet. But you send the checks to a brokerage instead to put into a money market account. When you get back stateside again you quietly go shopping and get your guns. Once you have the guns in hand she likely won't do anything rash about it. Tell her they were purchased over time with your savings. You aren't really lying there either. Better to beg forgiveness than ask for permission. I was on Oki in '81. Unaccompanied single year tour. Kind of cool, but the real fun was MAC flights every 96 hour liberty to somewhere exotic. Saw a big slice of East Asia and the island countries that way. Came back liking sushi before it became popular in the states. Everyone thought I was out of my mind eating the fish before it had been thoroughly battered, fried, and slathered in tartar sauce.

The local nationals grow some superb little oranges back in thee & there was some tennis courts back there, that's where the haunted ZSU 23/4 was.

QUOTE (Warlike @ October 1st 2009 5:29 PM) really? hrm my dealer said no to just get wife to hrmmmmm what about class3? I'm not 100% sure about Class 3, but LPRs can generally own anything or do anything an American citizen can do. There's a line on the 4473 specifically referring to LPRs, you have to have a hunting license and your A number. TS

QUOTE (Warlike @ October 1st 2009 4:51 AM) wouldn't work unfortunately I got an issue about actually buying my own stuff I'm only a permanent resident of the US at the time TigerStripe is right. You can buy your own civilian grade guns as a permanent resident. Honestly, if I made an assertion about NFA toys I'd be talking out of my rear. Those laws are arcane and I haven't taken the time to learn them. You might also note in my first post I said by saving the money it would not be a friend, but you buying when you got back. My suggestion was only about a way to squirrel away some funds that your wife isn't keeping a watch on. Later if Class 3 weapons really move you then just go for citizenship. Pretty easy to do on active duty once you are done with your first hitch. As long as you finish the classes and tests they will ramrod your paperwork through. Likely have a cool little ceremony too. The brass lives for photo ops like that. Might as well, imo. If you are willing to risk your life for America then you certainly deserve your citizenship. Every Honorably Discharged US vet really needs to be in the voting booth. I take Heinlein's stance. No discharge, no vote!

For some odd reason, I can buy a fixed stock AR in Virginia with a DL and a Hunting license, but one with a collapsing stock requires I provide proof of citizenship. ??? I can buy the complete lower with same stock, no problem. ??? Depends on where you go.

lol this is my second hitch, n they jacked up on me twice already while deployed, they told me after the fact that the Baghdad Embassy was doing their annual swear-ins, n then the post office lost the twenty pages of paperwork I did for a regular application, now I'm almost afraid to file from Oki although they have cut the paperwork down to like 4 or 5 pages lol

That's just so wrong, imo. They should be proactive about this for a serviceman. Send a directive to the closest US judge, ambassador, or JAG and get it done pronto.
From a US vet let me extend an informal apology from my nation to you. You've already proved your loyalty. We should return the same to you.

Jim Either a stupid state law or a dumb dealer. Federal law doesn't make distinctions between semiautomatic longguns since the AWB went away. Only states and cities have "Assault Weapon" laws that make a distinction between a gun with a solid A2 stock and a collapsible stock, etc. TS

I have a friend who is a citizen of the Republic of South Vietnam. That's right, a man without a country. He's been in the US Marine Corps since he was 18, active and reserve, and he's still trying to get citizenship. ??? He even showed up to the immigration office in dress blues. Jim
