her basic argument was kids get ahold of guns, innocent people die. without guns there would be no wars. and the best of it all was, her father died because a kid shot her dad and when he turned around he didnt shoot back because the guy was a kid. he was a cop. so he could have unholstered and shot she says, but didnt because it was a kid.

I learned a long time ago there's no arguing with someone who throws up if there were no guns there would be no wars argument.

There's only two explanations for that. They either truly are ignorant as a rock having not paid attention in history, read any books, or watched TV (very unlikely) or they have thrown logic to the wind and the whole subject to them is some deep seeded emotional head trip.

Either way, there's no winning an argument with them and all you can do is lose face in the process of losing the argument.

Everyone has their reasons, and hers are personal to her. Her reasoning is based solely on emotion, and who wouldn't have strong emotions if their dad was shot and killed. You won't change her mind. Some people you just have to accept for who they are.

Oh btw, As towards your last comment.

In my generation, we had a name for chicks like that. We called them "Hippie Chicks" and no we didn't avoid them. "Hippie Chicks" that are loose with their moral logic are typically loose with their morals especially if they are on a quest to convert you.

Explain to them that without guns there could be no US revolution. Both the first one and any that might come later. When they give the strange look about that last comment you tell them "I keep guns so my government fears me". At that point the gun haters will simply stop arguing with you and look dumbfounded, maybe even a little shock. But you just shut them up and they realized arguing with you is a complete waste of time. You will be labeled by them as a radical who will never accept their "reasoning".

It helps then to walk away muttering about clock towers and book repositories to yourself.

This is the fundamental problem of statists, liberal or conservative. They think that human nature is infinately malleable. If we only had the right set of rules we can fix anything. Give us a theocracy (Christian or Muslim) and we will have no pre-marital sex, abortion, or worse yet dancing. Put the flower children in charge and we ban guns, and lo, peace will miraculousy appear. The fact is that human nature is never going to change and no amount of sweet reason or oppression or any form of religious or secular government is ever going to change it.. You either build you society's foundation on that fundamental fact, or you build it on sand. If there were five people and one rock in the world, you would still have war. Deal with it and move on.

I am not on board with the swords thing. I used to fence saber in college and was pretty good at it too (Army ROTC, they were into that sort of thing). That was then, about 20 years and two good knees ago. I about got mugged on vacation in Charleston a couple weeks ago by a couple of kids who were half my age and a lot stronger looking than me. If it came down to swords, I would be screwed. However, to paraphrase: God made all men, in my case Gaston Glock made them all equal. No words, no threats, just showing the gun and I was able to continue on my quest for a late night snack of oysters and beer. Without the gun I would be reporting on the conditions in the local ER. Screw the hippie chick (well, I guess thats what started this mess so maybe scatch that idea). Still, they didn't have guns because they didn't need them if I was unarmed. Since I was, problem solved. I think I'll keep my guns, thanks.

You should have explained to her we didn't get this country by using our first amendment rights on the British.......we used our second.
To be able to hold on to this country we will need to hold on to our 2nd amendment rights.
Plus if your going by her logic then we should never let kids drive.

I had a discussion with my fiance on the difference between the way men and women think. To my understanding after our conversation, it wasnt a different prioritization so much as a fundamental mechanical difference. Women think more emotionally, yes, but its more than that. They can think about more than one thing at a time. Men really cant do that. You cant fathom that, because you utterly lack the capacity to do it, and never will be able to.

Compare this to yourself and the anti-gun libtard crowd. You cant fathom the way they think. There is no winning an argument, and you cant really bring them to sense because they dont think like you and I do. They dont see reality in the same way. Call it deluded, moronic, stupid, etc. but it is what it is.

The best explanation I have ever read was a guy on Big Hollywood talking about how liberals think like hardcore stoners do. They have to be on drugs to think their methods will solve any particular problem. As an example, the author wrote about a situtation he found himself in. His roomate(a monstrous pot-head) hadnt paid his share of the rent that month. When the author confronted him, pot-head said "Dude, all this negativity is getting us nowhere, lets just got get some brewski's at the strip club and you'll feel better about it." The author then said that when they left the strip club sufficiently buzzed some hours later, he felt less stressed but the rent still isnt paid in full and nothing is taken care of. The notion is that to solve the problem, get rid of the negativity and life will be grand again.

Why would you think someone who believes just as strongly that guns are bad will change their position? It's just not going to happen.

The people we can change are the ones that don't really have a trongly held belief. Those are the folks we can take shooting. That usually converts folks.

But ther are eople who you are wasting your time with discussing the issue. They can be good folks; just stay away fromthe gun issue.

Never argue with idiots, they drag you down to their level.
